Valverde to sign with Tigers not Cards
So glad we won't have to see him in the NL Central for at least the next 2 years, maybe 3. $14 Mil for 2 years and a 3rd mutual option @ $9 MIL.

What a relief!!!
Pun intended. I agree though, I feel like the Cubs hardly put the bat on the ball against him.
And, we don't have to face him at all this year.

we might in the WS

but he could be traded to Oakland
or are you saying Oakland wont make it also?

The Cardinals
have as much money left in the coffers as the Cubs, which is pretty much zilch. Valverde picked a bad year to be a free-agent closer. In other years, with his numbers, he may have gotten more than $7m/year.

He also...
… was dumb not to accept the Astros arbitration offer. He would have only gotten a one-year deal, but it would have been for big bucks.
not a bad contract IMHO
and one I wish we had offered him.

I'm going to enjoy watching the look on his teammates faces...
when he pulls that strikeout celebration bullshit when they’re playing the Angles, Red Sox, and Yankees. Asses and Scapulae are gonna be sore.
As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

It's a great signing for the Tigers..
Man oh man, I sure hope Marmol rises to the occasion and does well. Because if he flops, Hendry is going to rue the fact that he could have gotten Valverde for $7M a year.

I Disagree
He’s never had a 2+ WAR season and his stats are inflated by a high strand rate. His FIP are annually a full run higher too. Not sure this is such a slam dunk as you think it is.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

He should be a Cub, if not him then Heath Bell.
If we are trying to win now, we are placing a lot of faith in Marmol……
Looks like Padres have come to terms with Bell, avoiding arbitration.
In other news, I’m THRILLED Valverde will be moving on to the AL Central.
