If I do what I’m supposed to do, the Cubs will win." - Ryan Theriot

And here you guys thought
rebounds from Soto, Fontenot, or Soriano were key to the 2010 offense. No need for any of that. Theriot has it covered.
"We’re going to come back here next year healthy and do what we’re supposed to do, and we’re going to be all right. That’s not Hendry’s fault. He thought it was the right move. It didn’t work out. But at the same time, he’s the same guy that put back-to-back championship teams together." - Aramis Ramirez
I think at the very least, we're gonna have some great baseball this season.
Everyone seems so pumped. 77 days!

Not getting thrown out on the bases
would be a nice start. :)
Right.
Lou seemed enamored with the fact that Theriot steals about 20 bases a year. Never mind that his SB% is horrific.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
Makes you ask a few questions
How many are blown hit and run calls? It makes you wonder not only about Theriot’s decision making on the base paths, but also calls for the hit and run when he is on base.
And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.
That could be something to look into.

It's absolutely something worth looking into.
People look at SB numbers too vaguely, IMO. There’s far too much that goes into a stolen base to just look at the SB and CS numbers in a vacuum.
That said, I think Theriot needs to improve on his baserunning; although he’s not near as bad as many make him out to be.
I'd think...
…very few would be blown hit and runs.
When a guy gets tossed out on a missed hit and run, it is usually very very obvious.

Nice thought by Theriot...
…but the Cub’s success in 2010 has a lot more to do with several other players besides Theriot.
I am not a big Theriot fan, but I do hope he produces the way he thinks he can.

Come now
who could be more important than Theriot?
"We’re going to come back here next year healthy and do what we’re supposed to do, and we’re going to be all right. That’s not Hendry’s fault. He thought it was the right move. It didn’t work out. I guess no one!!!
Have you ever heard him on the radio with that other goofball on WGN?
That is some nauseous radio!!!

Curious
Somehow, I can’t say I’ve ever made it through an entire Theriot interview. Perhaps I just get confused and mistake the interview for a commercial.

I look forward to Theriot's demand to be the everyday 2nd baseman.
As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

How can you not play everyday
the guy who guarantees wins when he does things right? Now, by implication, if the Cubs don’t win, then it would be Theriot’s fault. Ergo – 2009 was Theriot’s fault? As were the playoff sweeps?

And not even one double negative...
But I see how it can be unclear since I’m purposely being mildly illogical.
1) Theriot guarantees the Cubs win if he does what he’s supposed to do.
2) Therefore, if the Cubs don’t win, Theriot must not have done what he’s supposed to have done.
3) The Cubs did not win enough in 2009.
4) Therefore, Theriot did not do what he was supposed to do.
5) Therefore, 2009 was Theriot’s fault.

That took me a couple minutes but I got it.
Some men learn through what they read. Some men learn through what they're told. Some men have to piss on the railroad tracks. And some men keep on pissin'.
That's it Ryan, man up and watch people bash you.
This is ridiculous. Theriot says I need to play better and do exactly what a top of the order hitter should do. And what does he get? Bashed. He’s thinking about team wins and getting bashed for it?? WTH?
Until somebody can take a top of the order slot away from Theriot, it’s rightly his slot.
I’m not saying Theriot is the greatest SS. But I don’t see a free agent replacement option that I would prefer.
Stop looking the gift horse in the mouth.
An actual horse would make a better SS.
As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

why not
scientifically combine Theriot and Seabiscuit and get a Centaur who double clutches?

You'd get a jockey.
Some men learn through what they read. Some men learn through what they're told. Some men have to piss on the railroad tracks. And some men keep on pissin'.
I would expect
that the guy who does more interviews than the rest of the entire NL Central combined would be able to take a little ribbing when he makes what was a funny although probably unintentionally self-centered statement like this.
But if you think Theriot can’t take it, I could delete the fanshot.

I don't Theriot is feeling the heat from ya
Yeah, doubt he’s logging on here frequently.
self-centered? His statement didn’t ring of self-centered to me. What do you want him to say – “I need to drive the ball more…”

I think Theriot can take it.
He said the Cubs would win if he did his job. That seems to ignore 24 other guys. I don’t think it was intentional. I think it was funny.

Heavens to mergatroid!
With the gaping holes in the construction of this roster and the rate at which GeniusJim writes checks to every journeyman AA talent that comes along, this comment is more of a swing and a miss than the Guess Hitting Hack’s usual attempt at hitting a 59 foot breaking ball.
If our slap-hitting, lead-footed, pie-throwing excuse for a shortstop thinks all this current Cubs team needs to win is for him to wiggle his bat harder and get his jersey dirtier, then I have nothing else to say.

you forgot to call us kool aid drinkers, and that we need a real SS who can hit LH

YES! lol

next up:
an Adult Learning course at the Community College Annex, next to the YogenFruut at the mall.
Forget all that other stuff. I gotta believe.
