Xavier Nady To Sign With Cubs, Pending Physical

Via tweet from Yahoo's Tim Brown. More details when they are available.

I'm fine with this signing, presuming Nady has sufficiently recovered from the elbow surgery he had last year. Nady is 31 and had a fine year in 2008 split between the Pirates and Yankees. Lifetime he has hit .308/.383/.471 in 673 plate appearances vs. LHP, so he'll make a fine platoon partner for Kosuke Fukudome.

Here are his career stats from baseball-reference.com

I'd rather have Dye...

but this will due

Start Sean Marshall!!

by Chanman25 on Jan 26, 2010 11:49 AM CST reply actions

Why on earth would you rather have Dye

who can’t play defense, can barely hit anymore, and is 4 years older than Nady?

by Wreckard on Jan 26, 2010 1:02 PM CST up reply actions

I think he can still rake

If he’s given the proper rest. He’s not an everyday starter. His numbers the past two years have really trailed off in Aug and Sept, but before that his numbers are awesome.

That being said, he’s a statue (though a statue with a good arm and the know how as to where to throw it), and he is older. All in all, I’d rather have Nady, but I would have been happy with Dye.

by jerry morales rules on Jan 26, 2010 1:27 PM CST up reply actions

Dye probably would have been my last choice of the 4.

Gomes is equally bad in the field but at least he’s young and can still hit. Johnson is often hilariously overrated around here, but his defense is solid and does fine as long as you only bat him according to his splits, and he was probably the cheapest option.

Dye doesn’t seem to offer much other than a lot of offensive uncertainty and bad defense. He also seemed to be asking for the most money of the 4 which is pretty ridiculous.

Nady can still hit, can back up Lee at first, and assuming his elbow is back to normal can play league-average defense in right. I really like this signing a lot.

by Wreckard on Jan 26, 2010 1:34 PM CST up reply actions   2 recs

I agree with that

My only exception is that I think he can still hit very, very well if he’s rested. He can’t play 140+ games anymore, that’s obvious, but if he were to play anywhere between 80-100, I think he could be very effeective.

In any event, I am happy with this signing.

by jerry morales rules on Jan 26, 2010 2:41 PM CST up reply actions

Yes.

But Dunn’s offense would have provided much more than Dye.

"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra

by Al Yellon on Jan 26, 2010 1:54 PM CST up reply actions

but there wouldn't have been as much bad defense ...

because Dye would have played FAR less in the outfield. He wouldn’t have needed to provide as much offense to cover his bad defense.

But whatever. I was on the MB bandwagon last offseason, so I’m clearly not batting 1.000 myself.

by elgato on Jan 26, 2010 1:57 PM CST up reply actions

If you spend less time on defense you generally spend less time on offense, too.

So you’d have relatively few PAs to make up for the bad defense you play.

I certainly recognize that overall level of play was more important in the Dunn deal — Dunn would have been paid a lot more money and expected to play a lot more. When you’re signing someone to be a platoon player and presumably paying him as such you don’t expect the same production.

by aldimond on Jan 26, 2010 4:48 PM CST up reply actions

Yes, I would have

I do think if rested he could be a very good bat, but his range is lousy. He still has a good arm though.

by jerry morales rules on Jan 26, 2010 2:38 PM CST up reply actions

me too

that’s one of my concerns. He’d be a better defensive player than Dye, but Dye usually doesn’t get injured

Start Sean Marshall!!

I think we're done on SP

I don’t see another FA on the market worth bringing in to start over our current options. Bedard or Smoltz maybe, and I wouldn’t mind kicking the tires on Chien-Ming Wang. What made Sheets so appealing was the opportunity to buy low on big upside. As it turns out, he got $10M which wasn’t a buy low anyway.

Interesting when you dig into the year by year splits.

In 2008, he killed RHP, hitting them better than LHP.
In 2007, he had fairly even splits.

This is one big advantage Nady has over a player like Reed Johnson who has no use for the team v. RHP.

year-by-year splits

are going to have variance like that because of sample size issues

I do agree that Nady was the best all around option we had for RF, because he’s really somewhere between a 3rd and 4th OF in terms of value

They'll have variance

for guys who can hit RHP – not so much for guys who don’t. And that’s the point on Nady – he upgrades Reed significantly in terms of how you can use him.

Except you just know

the A’s are going to trade him in June or July if he’s healthy.

The A’s aren’t going anywhere this season. This signing is all about giving Billy Beane another trading chip.

The good news here is that Beane and Hendry like to trade with each other. Bad news is that it could cost us someone pretty good in July if that comes to pass.

Bad news is that Beane will also trade with the Cardinals.

It's a really interesting strategy:

signing players to 1-2 year deals with the sole intent of trading them midseason for prospects. From the players point of view, it must be pretty tempting: you most likely get more money than you would from a team expecting to keep you on the payroll all year, but at the same time you have no idea where you’ll end up come Summer.

the a's could contend

their pitching depth is fantastic now with Sheets and that division isn’t a 95+ win division

If they’re in it, they’ll hold Sheets and get draft picks, if they’re out of it they’lll move him

There are three teams in that division

better than the A’s. And Oakland’s offense is messed up. Their rotation has a lot of promise, but young pitchers are unpredictable.

Maybe you won’t need 95 wins to take the West this year, but I’d bet you need 92-93, and I can’t see Oakland sniffing that.

Like Holliday last year, they’ve got him to trade him.

by Josh77 on Jan 26, 2010 1:50 PM CST up reply actions

i agree like Holliday last year

the plan is to potentially trade him, but if contending they hold and take the comp picks

I think their pitching could take a big step forward especially Cahill and Anderson (Anderson is a stud), they get Duchscherer back and now have Sheets. their bullpen is solid using situational relievers perfectly and their lineup could be sneaky (especially if they add Damon as a DH type)

i think their upper level projection could be in the high 80’s

heck their pythag record last year was 81-81

He was originally asking $10-$12 mil

So the A’s are getting a “deal.”

Now the AL West will be a race: to see which injury prone pitcher will go on the DL first – Harden or Sheets.

Good move.

I really like the platoon of Fukudome and Xavier Nady in right field. Just hope he’s healthy. I know this may be dangerous…..but I’m giving Hendry & Co. the benefit of the doubt that they did their homework on his health status, and that by spring training, he’ll be ready. Fingers crossed, but overall, I like this.

At 31 and a 1 year deal

this could be a pretty good tryout. If he is good, I would say sign him up for 2 more years if he can exceed expectations.

Solid Signing

Happy with this signing. Hope he stays healthy. He can fill in for Soriano, too. Again, hoping for a healthy 2010 for Mr. Nady.

by jselinger24 on Jan 26, 2010 12:08 PM CST reply actions

If Nady is healthy...

I like this pickup. I liked Reed, but more on personality than on performance. Let’s hope Nady’s off year last year was entirely tied to injury and he is still able to return to more solid form.

As for our pitching….I’m bummed that it wasn’t meant to be with Sheets (no way we were going to pay him as much as he got). I’m not nearly as sanguine as some around here about our staff…now we’re stuck with it. Three decent guys and 2 question marks. Not ideal…

by CubsWin!Oregon on Jan 26, 2010 12:13 PM CST reply actions

I should qualify...

as I hadn’t realized Nady only played 7 games last year. So moreso we just have to hope he can still play after this latest surgery. Last year’s stats are irrelevent.

Now that this position is filled

we’ll soon hear more about what’s left in the budget for pitching depth.

true...

But 1) I dont’ see us getting a SP over a RP, and 2) Going off memory, I don’t think there aren’t really any pitchers left who could make much a difference for us. There’s no point in signing a Mark Mulder type who wouldn’t offer much of an upgrade….

are precisely the kind of guys I’d look at. True, he could end up being a Wade Miller, but he could also end up being a Ryan Dempster. It’s a risk worth taking when you have the depth, but depth with question marks, we have.

It's the quiet signings with little applause

that usually turn out to be the most successful, rather than the flashy, expensive Soriano type deals. I’m very pleased with the way this signing.

by Bradsbeard on Jan 26, 2010 2:37 PM CST up reply actions

I don't think that's true.

The most important element to a successful team is lots of quality players under team control. I guess those are typically small signings, but they’re a totally different thing than the Nady deal. Beyond that, teams sign expensive contracts for free agents that will have a big impact on the team. If they didn’t have a big impact teams would not write big contracts. They sign players that will have smaller impacts to smaller contracts. Currently the Cubs have several players on pretty big contracts that most of us would call very successful: Lee, Ramirez, Dempster, and Lilly, for example. The small contracts aren’t any more likely than the big ones to be successful — you just don’t notice as much when they fail.

With Nady, Cus still have 1 open spot on the 40-man roster

By my count, Nady makes 39 guys on the 40-man roster. Who should the Cubs add to that 40th spot? Calero? Park?

Do the Cubs usually start camp with all 40 spots filled?

by RiskyBusiness on Jan 26, 2010 12:32 PM CST reply actions

It depends on the year.

Sometimes, there is a spot to fill that they’d need to leave open. This year, there may not be.

Looking at the current 40-man, I don’t see anyone who is an obvious “doesn’t belong”, unlike some other years when guys like Adam Harben and Russ Rohlicek (pitchers who had zero chance of making the ML roster) were on it.

On his career, defensively

Nady is a tick below average in the corners, and a bit above average at 1B. Fangraphs link. As we look at what is likely to be the last position player added, the Cubs have improved two big issues from last year – depth and defense. Nady now backs up Soriano, Dome, and DLee, probably resting all of them. Baker backs up Ramirez and Nady, although he may win the 2B job more outright. If Soriano rebounds, we won’t have a significant negative on defense.

Beane...

has the money to spend because he couldn’t get anyone else to take it. So… unlike the Marlins owners etc., who just pocket the money… he went out and made a deal to get what he determined was the best player avaialble and offered him a deal he couldn’t refuse… a one-year deal! This is either works out well or is a definition of a sunk cost. It’s not like the Athletics could have contended in the AL West without a major improvement and hedging against the volatility of young players.

Michael Taylor, Jake Fox, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Coco Crisp, Ben Sheets… I’ll take what the A’s added this offseason over most teams and gave up pretty much nothing to do so.

Plenty.

A NTC is viewed as a player perk. It gives the player all of the power should a team wish to rid themselves of him. You have to believe negotiations go something like this:

Player: “I want 10 million!”
Club: “How about 8 with a full NTC?”

The Trib, knowing full well that they’d be out of the baseball business in a couple of years, could have handed these out as a way to pay less out of pocket while they still had the team on their books.

Does Nady also play some LF or 1B?

If he can spell Soriano or D-Lee once in a while, that makes him even more valuable. I know they wanted a righty to platoon with Fukudome in RF, but with his oft-injured arm, he almost seems like more of a left-fielder if his throwing arm is not the best. Plus, if he has a “games played” incentive in his contract, then any versatility he brings to the table is good for him.

Nady can play LF.

He’s played a few games at 1B in his career (82), so he could probably back up D-Lee, who needs few off-days.

i like the deal in a vacuum

but 3.3 seems like a decent bit for a 4th OF, add in the bevy of similar options on the FA market and lack of demand for them and throw in the 3.75 million spent on Grabow and it still feels like we’re over-spending on less impactful positions on the roster

well...

we’ve been through Darren Oliver who is actually a superior option to Grabow and cost less

Calero is a better pitcher than Grabow (though if you want to argue durability Grabow would have the edge there)

as far as 4th OF’s go, Gomes, Dye, Byrnes, etc. I’m not saying they’re better or worse. Its just there’s a lot of supply on the market and little demand for a 4th OF at 3+ million dollars. My guess is one of those guys is available in March for something like 1.5-2

just because the Cubs pay a guy something doesn’t mean they’re setting the market at that.

Most teams aren’t looking to spend 3-4 million on a 4th OF

We aren't most teams

And Nady is much better than most teams’ 4th outfielders. He’s good enough that he could steal playing time from a lot of different spots out there.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nady play 110-120 games this year, being used to rest Soriano and Lee regularly, and even starting over Fukudome against righties when the matchup looks good.

by Wreckard on Jan 26, 2010 1:41 PM CST up reply actions

i don't disagree

as i said in a vacuum nady for 3.3 million is fine.

The problem is we’ve already overspent in other areas that will have minimal impact on our success (3.75 million to a replacement level reliever) AND there is ample supply on the market for similar players to Nady

50th-65th best OF in the league

might not sound very good, but when you consider that there are 30 teams, that means he’s at least as good as what most teams are trotting out as their 3rd outfielder (at least, in terms of WAR).

by madcow256 on Jan 26, 2010 3:01 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah but...

Nady hit his stride two years ago, so taking all those learning years into account as his career average doesn’t seem like a fair assesment of where he is at now (which is of course clouded by the year of injury).

WAR

I do not know what these WAR Statistics are or how there calculated but grading Nady as a 50-60th best OF in MLB sounds accurate. He builds up his statistics on Fair to Mediocre pitching and most of them are not money hits. A Platoon situation with he and Fuku should get the best out of both them. For the price and for what the Cubs were looking for Nady was the best out there.

The question is whether the 4th OF on the 2010 Cubs

is a position you can just wait and see what you get, as Jim did when he first acquired Reed Johnson, or if it’s important to pay premium. I think with our injury questions, Jim Hendry decided not to wait too long to see what’s available this year.

Nady shouldn’t end up just a 4th OF. He should be playing quite a bit, resting all our corner men but Aramis.

Reed was the 5th Outfielder in 2008

Soriano-Pie-Fukudome. Then Darryl Ward was the lefty pinch-hit/4th outfielder. Then Edmonds supplanted Pie.

by RiskyBusiness on Jan 26, 2010 1:57 PM CST up reply actions

Reed started more than Pie

by DGU on Jan 26, 2010 1:59 PM CST up reply actions

But Reed never filled the typical 4th outfielder role

More starts than Pie or platoon in CF is different than the typical 4th outfielder role.

But I should nit-pick.

I hope Nady is healthy and able to contribute significantly. If he sees lefty pitching well, that could be a big plus for 2010.

by RiskyBusiness on Jan 26, 2010 2:27 PM CST up reply actions

I disagree.

Johnson was part of a CF platoon in 2008, whereas he would be the defensive replacement in 2010. He couldn’t platoon with Byrd or Soriano, because they all hit right handed.

by elgato on Jan 26, 2010 1:59 PM CST up reply actions

I think the key here ...

is that Nady is the most versatile defensively in a way that suits the Cubs. None of the other likely options can really play first. Granted, Johnson can play CENTER, but the Cubs have three guys on the roster — Byrd, Fuld and Kosuke — who can do that.

Personally — and if the money were equal — I would have gone with Dye, then Gomes, then Nady. But that’s only because of Nady’s injury history. Nady, if healthy, could be the best player of the guys still out there.

by elgato on Jan 26, 2010 1:31 PM CST reply actions

oh, definitely!

But that’s because I have no confidence in Mike Fontenot, and I think Lou will overuse him (instead of Baker) to get more lefty-righty balance.

Decent bat off bench

Not a strikeout machine so he should be OK as a PH too…if he’s passable inRF then it’s a good deal as Kouske just cannot get the job done against lefties and needs a platoon partner.

This pretty much locks up Fuld as 5th OF to back up Sori and Byrd.

Has Nady always been a RF? Don’t remember him as a fielder, but as a pretty strong hitter for Pitt and NYY.

One of these days the Cubs will actually develop a good OF again…wonder when/who that will be?

not sure if he will directly assist the mlb team

Hendry kind of stressed at the Cubs Convention that Maddux’s main role will be with minor league development. The most that Maddux would do on a major league level is make suggestions to Hendry about certain players in and out of the organization that Hendry should take a look at.

One refines swing, gives advice and guidance, all that.

if that was all..

then yes I would be… but that ain’t all that happened right?

To get Miles gone (and still having to pay some of his salary), we lost Jake Fox and only gained a middle reliever. That’s a net loss.

To get Bradley gone… had to take on Silva… that’s a net loss for me, regardless of the cash.

Both teams the Cubs traded with made out better in the deals than they did.

Just cutting them would have been a better move.

And no I don’t like committing to Byrd. I think Sam Fuld would have done as much for far less money and commitment. He’s a neutral move… except he’s BACKLOADED! Therefore, he’s going to hurt the Cubs later… when they have the money to spend now… that they’re not spending.

So that’s just stupid twice!

I like Fuld, but...

… he’s not a fulltime player. As a 4th or 5th OF? Sure.

And you have shown no evidence that the Cubs have money to spend that they’re not spending. In fact, Byrd’s deal will be a much smaller portion of the whole two years from now, when the Cubs will have a lot of deals coming off the books in the next two years.

by Al Yellon on Jan 27, 2010 6:46 AM CST up reply actions

Fuld vs Byrd

Fuld has shown more potential to help a team than Byrd has. He’s mediocre at best. Fuld showed last year he could get on base and play defense… two things the Cubs desperately. Byrd hasn’t done squat in his major-league career, yet the Cubs saw fit to hand him a three-year deal.

If he was any good, the Phillies wouldn’t have dumped him… the Nationals definitely wouldn’t have dumped him and he wouldn’t have had to beg for a job this year until the Cubs got desperate.

Until you show me any evidence that Byrd isn’t a one-year fluke, helped by Texas effect, I’ll take Fuld. Care to dispute just how horrible a player he has been offensively away from Texas? Even in his best season in a contract year, he still hit like crap outside of Texas.

I would immediately place Fuld in the lineup as the team’s leadoff hitter and just see what happens. The guy had a .409 obp last year. I don’t know what more you wanted him to do.

Furthermore… I choose not to believe my team can’t afford a payroll as big as any other team in baseball… because when I get offered kool-aid, I pass. Cubs fans put just as much heart and money into our team as any in baseball… we deserve better.

Stop calling me negative just because you don’t like it and choose not to accept the facts. The Cubs do dumb things, I just have the guts and integrity to say so. When they do half-way decent things like signing Xavier Nady, I say that too.

what year?

go ahead… what years would you call good years? His rookie season? Sure, I’ll give you that. Of course, two years later the Phillies shipped him off for Endy Chavez, and the Nationals didn’t even keep him long after that.

Last year he had a .322 OBP on the road… in his career season. And that’s right along his career norms on the road.

His 2008 773 OPS on the road was the best in his career. Is that a good number for you?

Byrd has had lots of chances… and he’s proven himself no more than mediocre in his best years.

If the Cubs cut Silva tomorrow, it’s a net gain. I’ve said that 100 times before and I keep hoping I don’t have to repeat it again. Every time I read they are going to count on Silva for something, I cringe. When I stop reading things like that, I’ll start giving them credit for the move… and letting Milton Bradley stop them from doing anything this offseason.

Might I humbly suggest...

…you start looking at wOBA and wRC+? Here’s how Byrd’s last three years break down (wOBA, wRC+, WAR):

2009: .345, 108, 2.4
2008: .370, 125, 3.6
2007: .350, 110, 2.6

He’s been above league average three years running now. No one is going to call the guy an All Star, but he deserves better than to be labeled “mediocre.” I believe he was absolutely the right call once Granderson and Cameron were off the table.

Marlon Byrd has a career .340 OBP and has had a 100+ OPS+ for the past three years. Fuld has a .403 OBP and a 104 OPS+ in two years with the Cubs.

One big difference? Fuld’s SLG is .388, Byrd’s is .422.

Byrd’s got a career .2 UZR in CF (4226.1 innings), which, while not fantastic, is a lot better than Fuld’s -4.6 (and yes, Fuld has a small sample size of 162.2 innings).

Silva could be released yet.

And if Jake Fox is such a superstar in waiting, why couldn’t they get anything else for him?

Ah, the rallying cry of backloaded…Byrd’s total compensation isn’t so onerus that they couldn’t move him after one year.

Come on...

and if Silva’s released, then it’s a net gain. I’ve made that point so many times, I’m not bothering to again. I have no faith or confidence they’ll do so. Just as I have no confidence you bother reading everything someone has to say. You pick and choose depending on what you believe in regardless of whether something makes sense. You can defend whoever you want. I’m sure not making you do a damn thing.

Those that bring up Luis Vizcaino can do so all you want, but they had far less invested in Vizcaino than they do in Silva. How they dealt with Vizcaino should give you even less confidence in their ability to do the right thing in any situation.

I never said Jake Fox was a superstar in waiting. Jake Fox was an asset to this team, just like he’s an asset to his new team, who gave up nothing to get him. They’ll also be paying far less for Aaron Miles than the Cubs did to suck for them… but they’ll probably just cut him, anyway.

I know why the Cubs didn’t get fair value for Jake Fox. For the same reason we didn’t get fair value for Michael Wuertz, Mark DeRosa, Jason Marquis, Jose Ceda, Garrett Olson, Felix Pie… it’s the combination of desperation and an incompetent front office.

God… let’s use the Jake Fox example on Marlon Byrd. If Marlon Byrd was so great… why didn’t he get more from some other team? You can say that about any move good or bad… it proves nothing.

I agree that the average value of Byrd’s contract isn’t onerus. He’d still make a decent backup at that level, because he makes for a pretty decent defensive backup. But outside of Texas, the guy has never, ever hit, and the Cubs didn’t sign him to be a backup. He’s not going to hit in the first year of his contract when he’s undervalued… he’s not going to hit in the last two years of his contract when nobody else would want him for that price.

If Fuld gets exposed at the MLB level, at least they didn’t drop $5 million per year on a three year deal on him. I’ve wanted them to give Sam Fuld a chance since last year… and your numbers to dissuade that, because they don’t tell the whole story.

Most people who watch games can see that Fuld was an awesome fielder last year and Byrd is a LF waiting to happen.

Byrd will be fine in the short term, but if possible, I would rather see Fuld than him Byrd in CF in the 9th inning with a 1 run lead. But then again Fuld’s job at that point will be to replace a much worse fielder than Byrd in LF- Soriano.

Hendry didn’t fix the Milton Bradley problem… he replaced him with another problem. And when he signed MB from Texas #2, he lit fire to whatever savings came in the Bradley deal.

I’ve always believed the pitching coach matters much more… and I’ve never, ever been a fan of Larry Rothschild. I think he gets the least out of an incredibly talented staff.

We got Jeff Gray in the Fox/Miles deal, remember? He essentially replaces Heilman. And there was no need to replace Gregg.

Considering...

Kevin Gregg “replaced” Kerry Wood… you’re wrong there. The Cubs still need to replace Kerry Wood.

And if you say Carlos Marmol does that… then the Cubs need to “replace” Carlos Marmol.

I will be grateful to say I’m wrong when Jeff Gray does the job Heilman should have done last year. I will also be ecstatic when they bring in Kiko Calero. If both guys are given a shot and they don’t work out, you won’t find me here saying they didn’t at least try.

Why weren't the Cubs ever in discussions for Rick Ankiel?

It seems like he and Nady are the same player from different sides of the plate, though Ankiel is capable of playing CF.

Nady is or can be ...

1) A right-handed platoon partner for Kosuke (ruling out Ankiel)
2) Insurance against a Soriano injury (somewhat ruling out Reed, because he lacks power)
3) A backup for Lee at first (ruling out Gomes and Johnson and making Dye less attractive because he has less experience than Nady at first)
4) An affordable option who was willing to take a part-time rule (further ruling out Dye)
5) A decent defensive outfielder (further ruling out Dye)

Nady, of course, is a bigger injury risk. But he has those pluses that the other guys just didn’t have.

they signed Byrd… better just play him. He’ll be alright defensively and won’t kill them with the stick. But they better not hit him in a prime production spot until he proves his offense wasn’t just Texas effect.

Nady should get a lot of at-bats though for Kosuke, Byrd and pinch hitting. First move Hendry’s made this offseason with absolutely nothing anybody could look down on.

I think the subs need a new SS, if anything.

While I think Nady will be helpful, We should be looking for a replacement at SS. With the potential out of Colvin and Fuld, and the defensive capabilities of Fuku, the potential offense of Sori, and the new addition to Byrd, our OF is fine. For infield, the corners are obviously secure, being Dlee and Rami. I htink Baker and Fonty will be good at 2nd. What the D lacks his a better defender at SS, Riot is a good batter, usually, but lead the team in errors ’09 and was 2nd in ’08. I will admit the Error argument could be weak, since Rami was #2 and #1 respectively (at least he hits [hard[)

You poke around on an essentially anonymous blog looking to rile people up, refuting minutia in comments that have nothing to do with what the person is actually saying. You attack people then feign injury when something that you don’t like is posted but you can’t really refute, or if someone posts concrete evidence that contradicts something you say, you deflect or disappear from the discussion.

As I said before – life’s too short, man. Go for a walk or watch a funny movie or something. Of course, if you get your jollies thinking that you pissed someone off that you’ll never meet, well, by all means, continue.

What a load of shit

Stop crying. Good luck finding “attacks” or feigned injury. Good luck finding a lot of stuff that I can’t refute. I had your pal Tim screaming in indignation, throwing insults because I said that MB bumped the ump’s hat and the idea that the ump should retreat is far fetched. Rather than being the one who can’t refute it, I was the one who went out and got the second video that clearly showed it. A bunch of people cried because I said the idea that Sori was a great defender was wrong.

And your little tale that you like to tell about “concrete” evidence that I run from is a factory farm sized pond of crap. Maybe instead of being a hector, you should engage with the notion that you aren’t superior to everyone.

You're funny

I don’t think I’m superior to ANYONE. I find your schtick tiresome, though.

Platoon partner with Fukudome?

More like he should play RF every day with Fukudome in CF. Byrd is no more than an overpaid bench player. Who in their right mind would play Byrd over Nady? Wait a minute, I forgot that our manager is the same guy who played Bobby Scales in LF almost every day during the last month battle for necessary wins.

by TheGrinch13 on Jan 26, 2010 7:00 PM CST reply actions

Maybe the three of them could platoon in some way.

That is what I would think is the most likely possibility.

Who cares if he's a Cubs fan? This is a football forum! He is a PACKER fan as well. So, from now until March, I’m sure he’ll dedicate a lot of his time here. In late March, then we can be enemies during the baseball season. Besides, the Cubs have perhaps the most loyal baseball fanbase in the country. You have to respect that.

Go Pack!

its funny

He is using the same logic for Fox that we saw from Clutche about Hoff
Complains about many simliar things as CLutche did
Refuses to accept facts given to him when he is dead wrong
Does not reply to the multiple claims made that he is Clutche

I am convinced that Clutche has pulled a BLou and is back under a new name.

Is Tracy injury prone, or did he just forget how to play baseball?

I mean, .308 with 27 homers in 2005, .281 with 20 homers in 2006, then hasn’t played more than 98 games in a season since.

Average of only 87 games player per year since 2007.

No idea why that is. Maybe someone from AZ Snakepit might know.

Diamond { BACK} in the rough

Could be like finding a diamond in the rough if Tracy can gain back 2005 form .. Hopefully he can come back from injuries . IMO is a good cheap pickup that might pan out

by CUBFANINAZ on Jan 26, 2010 8:37 PM CST up reply actions

Better than Hoff

Tracy plays 1st base , 3rd base , and both corner outfields .. IF Tracy regains 05,06 , 07 form . This will be a great signing .

Al, I have to say the original photo of Nady is one of the more unflattering ones you could have found.

I mean, he looks like he’s trying to turn himself into a human wishbone…

Thank God he wasn’t wearing a dress!

(shudder)
