Cubs Spring Training Broadcast Schedule

The Cubs today announced the spring training broadcast schedule. This spring, 11 games will be on WGN radio and nine on TV (three on CSN, six on WGN). I'd expect ESPN or MLB Network may pick up some more games during the spring. Also, the game on March 7 vs. the White Sox will be carried on WSCR; March 13 vs. the White Sox on WSCR and CSN, and March 19 vs. the White Sox on CSN (all with Sox announcers). After the jump is the complete schedule.

Star-divide

Game times through March 9 are 2:05 Central. Game times for March 14 and later are 3:05 Central.

Thursday, March 4 vs. Athletics (WGN radio) Saturday, March 6 vs. White Sox at Mesa (WGN radio, WGN-TV) Sunday, March 7 vs. White Sox at Glendale (CSN) Tuesday, March 9 vs. Brewers at Mesa (WGN radio) Friday, March 12 vs. White Sox at Las Vegas (CSN, 9:05 CT) Sunday, March 14 vs. Angels at Tempe (WGN-TV) Tuesday, March 16 vs. Rangers at Mesa (WGN radio) Friday, March 19 vs. White Sox at Glendale (WGN radio) Saturday, March 20 vs. Royals at Mesa (WGN radio) Sunday, March 21 vs. Reds at Goodyear (WGN radio) Monday, March 22 vs. Indians at Mesa (CSN) Friday, March 26 vs. Athletics at Mesa (WGN radio, WGN-TV) Saturday, March 27 vs. Padres at Mesa (WGN radio, WGN-TV) Thursday, April 1 vs. Rockies at Mesa (WGN radio, CSN) Saturday, April 3 vs. Diamondbacks at Chase Field (WGN radio, WGN-TV)

Any sense of the XM coverage for ST Al?

Now only 12,859 on the "Cubs Season Tickets Waiting List"...

None yet.

But many games are carried on MLB audio — those games wind up on XM, as well as coverage by the Cubs’ opponent’s radio team.

In the past,

XM’s policy is to air only full squad games. For whatever reason, their policy was to not broadcast any split squad games.

Hey, it's a new century!

I wonder if they'll change that...

… given the much larger number of split squad games this year, not only for the Cubs but for all teams (since there are now an odd number of teams, 15, in both AZ and FL).

No Friday game coverage at Chase?

I would have thought that this one would be an obvious TV game (most of the starters playing, back of rotation starting pitcher on mound). Still, the same thing happened last year (just the Saturday game on WGN-TV). Hopefully FSN Arizona will have that one for us typical MLB.TV subscribers. All in all, it is a nice number of games to be able to follow.

MLB Network

Most likely the MLB Network will pick up that game, as they did last year with the first game at Yankee Stadium.

Depends what other games are being played that night.

ESPN Sunday Night Schedule

In a somewhat similar vein, ESPN this afternoon confirmed what the Sunday Night schedule is going to be for the first half of the 2010 season. The Cubs will hold off and wait until July to make two back-to-back appearances, so no Joe Morgan for a while.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=18009454#post18009454

July 11 Chicago Cubs at L.A. Dodgers (7 pm CT)
July 18 Philadelphia at Chicago Cubs (5 pm CT)

Also, the start time for the Opening Day game vs. the Braves is locked in at 3:10pm CT, though I think that has been known for a while.

Thanks.

Those two Sunday dates were on the Cubs’ schedule passed out at the convention. That means that the three Sundays in June (6/12, 6/19, 6/26) listed as “TBD” on the schedule will wind up as day games.

That leaves only three “TBD” Sunday home games — 7/25 vs. Cardinals, 8/22 vs. Braves, 9/26 vs. Cardinals, all of which could wind up on ESPN depending on how the teams are doing at the time.

Fiven the choice of...

Listening To Joe Morgan and being shot, my only question is what caliber bullet…?

- Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
- Germans?
- Forget it, he's rolling.

Sorry. It was my poor attempt at humor this evening.

Sometimes when the Cubs are not playing well, things can get a little testy in the game threads. Wailing. Gnashing of teeth. The occasional f-bomb thrown.

I'm looking forward to hearing

an eighth inning game in March with the following…

“Due up for the Cubs, Josh Vitters, Brett Jackson, and Starlin Castro. If someone gets on, look for a pinch hitter for Jay Jackson, maybe DJ LeMahieu.”

OT: Baseball alive at old Tiger Stadium site
I have to admit, i didn't expect this to work, and i generally don't condone ratting somebody out, but i think Woo Woo inspires special circumstances.

He was a few rows above me and a group of maybe a hundred other University of Iowa alumni last night, and started right in with the wooing early and loud. Between innings, he was... how shall i say this... creeping around? We all know his reputation.

Within 10 minutes of making a complaint to the Cubs text line, he was gone. Might be worth trying in future instances.

Sorry for the crappy picture quality... just got a new phone (HTC EVO) and am not sure how to take screen caps yet.
