A Look At The Reds New Spring Complex In Goodyear
The Cubs will play the Reds there on Sunday, March 21. I'm guessing the Cubs new complex will have similar amenities (and a larger stadium).

Grass berm looks small.
This is only the beginning....Lou Pinella end of '07 season and Chicago Transit Authority (the band when they were really good).
Doesn't mean much in the long term
But the new Cubs complex will have a scenic view out to the mountains, rather than parked jetliners.
As I said, that’s absolutely unimportant in the scheme of things, outside of asthetics — but still, it will be a beautiful vista.

I don't know how
you can state with any certainty what the view from the Cubs new ballpark will be, given that they haven’t even selected a location, let alone the design/orientation of the ballpark.
For instance, Camelback Ranch has received criticism for it’s orientation, which due to design constraints, has the playing field facing southeast, rather than the usual north by northeast, and as a result, the seating areas have less afternoon shade than any other ballpark in the Cactus League. (Anyone who has attended ST games in AZ knows that this is an issue).
My understanding is that the “amenities” and design features (lakes, park, etc) they wanted to include on this particular piece of land made the unusual orientation necessary.
Also, your comment about the view from the Goodyear ballpark is not very accurate. Here’s a description from a review posted online:
“Arizona is noted for it’s stunning mountain vistas. Goodyear Ballpark was built within eyeshot of two, the Estrella Mountains to the southeast and White Tank Mountains to the northwest. Impressive mountain vistas can be had down both outfield lines from the main grandstand or either the Outfield Box or Outfield Reserved sections, plus from the cheap "seats" in the lawn.” ’
Sigh..... Taken to the woodshed for what, essentially is an offhand comment.
I believe Al has already commented on the potential Mesa sights and the potential vistas.

Looks pretty nice.
Smallish, though — smaller even than Maryvale.
Gotta be weird looking at all those planes.

Actually
Goodyear (10,000) is larger than Maryvale (8,000), Phoenix Muni (8,500), and Tempe Diablo (9,350) and about the same as Surprise (10,500), Peoria (11,000) and Tucson Electric (11,000). The new D’Backs/Rockies stadium will also be 11,000.
my favorite line from the article...
Reds manager Dusty Bakers office includes two dressing lockers: one for Dusty and another for son Darren.
Nice to know that Darren’s well-taken care of.
Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."
Well, once Darren gets named new manager...
I’m sure he’ll let daddy use his old locker to change into his batboy uniform…

Hiding Elian Gonzalez

The Reds are already hiding Aroldis Chapman
Might as well make it a theme clubhouse!

I'll be there
on the 21st :) Very excited as it’ll be our first stop of the Spring Training circuit!
