Northwestern/Illini Tickets Have Arrived
UPDATE from Al: I edited the title of this post on 10/29 -- my tickets arrived today.
I purchased tickets online from Tickets.com on 9/22 for the NU v Illini football game scheduled for 11/20 at Wrigley Field. I was able to do this as a perk for being a Cubs season ticket holder.
As of today I have not received my tickets in the mail and needless to say, the customer service support at Tickets.com is of absolutely no help. They told me the tickets were mailed, cannot be tracked and I cannot do anything at this point. I need to wait 48 hours prior to the game to request duplicate tickets.
I am trying to find out from other Cubs season ticket holders if you purchased tickets to this game and if you have received your tickets via mail yet.
Thank you.

I can tell you as a Northwestern Season ticket holder, who also purchased tickets to the game at Wrigley — we have not yet received our tickets. While we ordered them from the NU ticket office as part of our season renewal they are being sent seprately. Now, I haven’t checked recently, but they told us they sould be sent our 2-3 weeks prior to the game. Based on your post, I’m going to check with the NU ticket office today. I’m dying to see where we’re sitting.
my brother has tickets too
if they said 2-3 weeks prior I’d guess they will be sent out shortly after Halloween.

I bought tickets, too, from the Cub season ticket holder sale.
Tickets.com said only that they would not be mailed until after October 12, which was only a week ago.
If they don’t arrive in another week, then I’ll investigate. But I’m guessing they will probably arrive sometime this week.

What color will you be wearing, Al?
I seem to recall you having some connection to Northwestern, so I’m really hoping for purple….
I have a bunch of tickets (8 at least) and am bringing a huge crew to the game (the perk of being a Northwestern ticket holder/working as part of Northwestern’s gameday crew) and I’m REALLY excited to see football in the Friendly Confines….
GO CATS! And GO CUBS!
Purple, for sure.
I have a graduate degree from Northwestern. Excited to see this game, too.

Wowzers...
Tough school, congrats on your accomplishment.
Though with no ties to Northwestern myself I’ll be in orange watching the game. Given the arc of the season for the Illini I think there are no real losers overall in this…neither team is going anywhere.

I beg to differ.
There have been plenty of upsets this year. If NU can upset MSU tomorrow…
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
Agree, Al....
…I actually think NU WILL upset MSU tomorrow. Northwestern always seems to win one game it shouldn’t, MSU is looking past NU to next week’s game vs. Iowa, NU had a bye week to prepare, and NU’s strength (Persa’s accuracy/passing) is up against their lone/slight weakness (a somewhat suspect/young secondary).
Even without a win against MSU, though, NU is still looking like a potential 7-8 win team (likely to win against Indiana, Penn State, and/or Illinois), meaning this would be the first time EVER that NU went bowling 3 years in a row.

Al,
Does Northwestern have a Master’s in International Relations or International Affairs or anything equivalent to that?
I didn't believe it last August, but it turns out that love survives.

I have no idea.
Why don’t you call them and ask?

My grandfather would be both proud and maybe a bit jealous.
He was a Northwestern graduate too. GO CATS!

Thank you for the information...
I was hoping others hadn’t received theirs and mine were lost in the mail.
Dallas Green!
I don't think anyone's are "lost" yet.
It just takes some time to get them all out. And remember, there was a postal holiday last week, which always delays stuff.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
I haven't gotten mine yet either.
I am glad to hear I am not alone.
Has anyone heard anything yet about when tickets will be available to the public for this game?
I already got 4 from a friend that works at NW and by the time I tried to purchase during the Cubs Season Ticket holder pre-sale all the cheapest seats were gone.
My guess is...
… there won’t be any, between the tickets allotted to NU, the Illini and the Cubs, I don’t think there are any left over.

Talking about the football game...
It looks like they are getting the field ready for the game. The infield and pitchers mound are are. New sod is being laid

See the Cubs 2011 schedule at http://cubsbythenumbers.com/sched2011.html
Also see what old Cubs Scorecards looked like at http://cubsbythenumbers.com/scorecards.html
I really need to proofread...

I'm guessing...
… that square in RF where there is no sod, is going to be where one of the goalposts goes.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
They're going E/W ??
I’d figure that would be an ESPN on-field pre/post game broadcast area.
Just win the next game...!
Most likely...
… that ESPN area will wind up in the bleachers, where they can have the entire park as a background.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
btw - that square is completely filled in now.
Walked by the knothole earlier today and they were just finishing up laying the sod all the way to the RF wall.
Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."
Any signs there was the "trap door" like
detail that’s in the pic below?
I’m wondering why they’d consider E/W for the field. Shadows across the side vs the South end of a N/S field?
Just win the next game...!
only in that you can see a little change in grass coloration and pattern
but other than that, it’s all grass just like everything else. The goalpost theory makes sense, especially since they’re now working on a similar square at the other end of the field. But isn’t the goal post base usually at the back of the end zone? And if memory serves, aren’t end zones usually 10 yds deep?
I always thought it was going to be a tight fit getting a 120 yd playing field into Wrigley no matter which way. When the Bears played there, wasn’t one end zone actually less than 10 yds deep? Anyway, that first square, in front of RF bleachers, sure looked to be well away from the wall. So if it is for the goal post, there’s gonna be lots of room behind it. Room I didn’t think was there.
Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."
When the Bears played there, wasn’t one end zone actually less than 10 yds deep?
Both, actually. They were eight-yard end zones.
The wall is 368 feet from home plate — that’s 122+ yards.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
If that's the distance, only to the other foul line
then why were the end zones only 8 yards?
I thought I remember seeing the South end zone nearly going into the baseball visitors’ dugout.
Just win the next game...!
Because the distance to the LF wall is only 353 feet.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
End Zones
I went to several Bears games and I recall just the corners of the endzones being cut off. I you notice the wall on the first base side runs more parallel to the base line all the way to the dugout. I pretty sure this was done to fit the gridiron in better. But yes part of the end zones were cut out.

jwagner723 sent me this photo of what he's talking about.

"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
So that's nearly 118 yards from the RF foul line
Couldn’t the remaining few feet have easily been found on the right side foul territory between home and 1st going towards the visitors dugout?
I thought I remembered seeing the far SE corner of the South end zone going into the visitors’ bull pen.
And both bull pens’ had their mounds lowered IIRC.
I remember as a little kid, my dad showing me a pic from the newspaper from the ’63 championship game against the Giants where a Bears player leveled a Giants player into the frozen tarp in the front of the LF club boxes. It looked like the mound was lowered.
Just win the next game...!
But here's another square that's most interesting...
Check this out – are they putting in a secret passageway? Maybe it’s a trap door/pit to catch lions, tigers and especially pirates, oh my! ;-)

fwiw, it looks to be pretty much in line from where that other open square was, so my guess is this all part of the new drainage system they put in a couple years ago.
Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."
that looks weird.
I’m surprised that they are putting sod over the infield. It seems a bit unnecessary to me.
---AC 00 00 00 - Believe
That's the way they do it at all baseball fields where they play football.
Unnecessary? Why would you want football players running across what could be a wet/muddy infield?
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
In Oakland and Miami...
They don’t do it until after the baseball season is done. You can play with the dirt showing, but it’s hell on the kicking game.
Makes perfect sense to sod here for a late-season game…if they can get the sod to root. Otherwise, it’s just crappy loose sod like after Soldier Field re-sods midseason.

Still....
year, after year, after year, after year.
THANK YOU CHICAGO PARK DISTRICT.
Just win the next game...!
I didn't realize they eventually did that there. I
I just remember seeing photos of football at those places with the dirt showing and assumed it stayed that way.
---AC 00 00 00 - Believe
For years, many years
combo baseball / football stadiums that utilized grass kept the dirt/sand out there and only would the mound be lowered.
Turf fields covered up the IF dirt but that wasn’t a big task since the IF dirt was not continuous foul line to foul line.
Just win the next game...!
So do they let you into Wrigley to take pics like these?
I always notice that gate K (LF) is open in the off-season but I have just figured they’d kick you out
Counting the days until 4/1/11...

Reported that tickets are sold out, but they may release some standing room only tickets. I am excited to get my tickets and beyond excited for the game. I may even do the Touchdown at Wrigley thing the next day I’m so excited for that weekend. I’ll be poor, but I’ll have memories. Memories keep you warm and full right?

Thanks for posting this
I’m going to the game today. A friend has to pick up their tickets at willcall so I will walk over with her and ask someone there about the tickets.
The Cats are better than expected this year.
Maybe we can do a BCB get together before or after the Wrigley game?
Al I think I’ll probably meet you finally at this game. I finally met the person who runs my favorite Northwestern blog at a Cubs game so I’ll probably meet you at a Northwestern game.
In December I will have my masters from NU. Already have my BA.

NU/Illinois and my family
I’m married to an Illinois alum. We don’t speak the week of this game every year :). He can accept Northwestern now being consistently better in football but it’s the 7th sign if they’re ever better at basketball.
NU is my family school. We bleed purple. My grandfather on my mother’s side graduated and my grandmother went there but didn’t finish (they met there). My Uncle graduated both undergrad and law school. 2 of my brothers graduated and one also got his masters. I will have both my BA (Have it already) and will have my masters this December. My stepfather was a professor there. My Dad is now a visiting lecturer there. One of my cousins got his law degree there.
And I adore Evanston.

Was at the game Saturday
Asked at the ticket office. The tickets will be going out this week.

Thanks.
Will be watching my mailbox and will post when they arrive.

Nothing yet for me.

someone say when they are going to be shipped.
My tickets arrived today. Here's what they look like.

very cool.
I’m pretty excited about the game. I got a new NU jersey for my birthday and I’m ready to go. :)

I bought a purple sweatshirt with the game logo...
… here. Probably way cheaper than at the game itself.

They sell them at Let's Tailgate on Central
plenty in stock

That's where mine came from.
Guess I could have saved the shipping charge by going there. Still likely cheaper than at the game.

Postal mail.
They came from tickets.com, the same way all tickets.com tickets come — in a plain white envelope with a Concord, CA return address.

anyone know if they will wear special jersyes
or have special patches, etc?
