they will be in their pads on the L, interesting way to take advantage of the publicity stunt
About noon, the Northwestern football team will get off the L at the Addison stop after the team dresses in Evanston and rides the train to Wrigley Field; the players will enter the field from Sheffield through the “knothole” —

There are some days that I wish I could ride the L in pads

I was wondering
I had been wondering how the heck they will going to have all those players dress in the Cubs clubhouse.
Where are the Illini dressing?

Bad Decision by ESPN
While this does not surprise me, I think ESPN may be very surprised when there aren’t thousands and thousands of people lined up at 6am to be a part of the College Gameday audience. College Gameday is a great program, but part of its success is predicated on being on a college campus where there are going to be a massive throng of excited, half drunk college students, painted up, in costume, with signs, flags and revved up. When Gameday announces that they’re going to be on a campus, its a big deal and the hype that surrounds it is huge.
Anyhow, I could be wrong and perhaps Wrigleyville will be going crazy at sunrise next Saturday, but I think they would have been better off heading to Iowa City or some random SEC town where fans are going to be up at the crack of dawn, ready for the game and excited about posing with Erin Andrews.
I think they'll be fine.
6 am, maybe not — but there should be people around by the time they hit the air. This is a big city and this is a big event.

well...
… ultimately time will tell, but I think that Gameday is used to a very specific type of crowd, and that is loud, screaming college students. I just don’t see that happening for this. Gameday doesn’t want people trickling in, they want thousands by the time they hit the air, which is either 7 or 8am typically on ESPN2 (or ESPNU, not sure which), then 9am on ESPN. They want people out there painted up in purple, dressed in team apparel and toting banners, flags and signs. I just think they’re going to be disappointed.
i'm not sure if people will be in purple but
i’m sure it will be crowded – or at least look crowded on TV – that’s not a big open space and it doesn’t have to be 1,000’s of people to look crowded – it will be a bunch of loud screaming college and not that far out of college students – including a bunch of students or alums who wish Gameday would have come to their campus (DePaul, Loyola, UIC, North Park to name a few). I think they’re going to be quite pleased with the turnout/result – but you’re right, time will tell
I think Gameday was at North Park in 2002
But seriously…
I agree withthose that think it will be less than crowded. This may be a big event in Chicago (big hype at least), but it will be nothing like a typical game in the SEC…they are nuts about football and tailgating there.

I agree...
that it’s a bad decision, but not for the reason you mentioned. Chicago is a huge city, and the Wrigleyville area is always lively. There will be a lot of people there, for sure. Not quite the record setting 18,000 at Mizzou a few weeks ago, but there will be thousands.
I just think it’s silly for them to come here for a game between two irrelevant football teams. There are three games next weekend that feature two top 25 teams (as of now). Seems logical to pick one of those games.
But with that said, this will be pretty cool and I’m eager to hear about it or maybe see it.
slightly OT
Blackhawks
Northwestern
will the Chicago Fire be the next team to play a game there? (I dont know the dimensions, so i am not aware of their field would fit or not)

Fire
There has been talk of the Fire playing a game at Wrigley. That was eons ago back when the winter classic was announced.
The Sting used to pla there.

I saw a few Sting games there in the late 1970's.
The field was laid out exactly as the current football field is, from 3B to the RF wall.

Fortunately for them...
soccer fields have a fairly wide variance on how big they can be. I believe that, as long as the ratio between base and sideline is the same, the field can pretty much be any reasonable size. Check out FIFA for those rules. Not sure if MLS has their own field size rules…
Bucky the Badger scored 83 points.
In a B10 game.

it was against Indiana, which doesnt field a team
IU sold their home game this Saturday to Danny Snyder, and it will be at Fed Ex Field in DC.

Great opportunity to brag.
I was one of the 18,000 at Mizzou this October, and GameDay is an absolute blast. The amount of signs you’ll see will blow you away- as will the particulars of some of the signs ;)
Gameday
Usually it is filled with the home team fans, etc. Wondering what the makeup will be for this one? I know I’ll be there behind Kirk Herbstreit with my orange and blue on…
I say 65% Orange, 35% Purple. What do you think?
Also, does Corso put on the Chief’s headdress or the Wildcat head?

For Gameday?
Who knows? For the game, it should be overwhelmingly purple. NU got about 75% of the tickets allotted to it based on being the home team and season ticket sales. About another 15% was to Illinois people and the rest offered to Cubs season ticket holders or the general public.

Gameday
Just thinking about the enrollment of both schools and the secondary ticket market, I bet there’s a lot of orange at Gameday.

Nope.....
This is a Northwestern home game. It’s been billed as a kind of Northwestern bowl game. I know lots of Northwestern season ticket holders (like me) bringing HUGE groups of purple fans (I have 4 season tickets, but have 8 Wrigley tickets, and all of us will be in LF bleachers decked out in purple). Easily 75% NU fans.
Plus — Wrigley itself is in purple. They’re painting the Wrigley marquee purple right here: http://bit.ly/p83hW
Hmm.
This is a Northwestern home game.
I’ve been to Northwestern home games. It’s far from a guarantee that it’s 75% NU fans. If Badger fans can fill half of the stadium at NU home games, Illinois fans can surely do the same for a game that has that ‘wow’ factor of being at Wrigley.
I’m pretty curious to see what the actual split will be, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it closer to 50/50 than 75/25.
Also, I’m still shocked they’re doing GameDay here when, as someone else mentioned, there are 3 match-ups this week between top 25 teams. I’m assuming Iowa’s loss last week took away their shot of hosting it. I can’t remember if they’ve had a GameDay yet this year, but I don’t think they have. I’m just looking forward to seeing the Washington State flag flying high as usual. Always cracks me up.

What is the Cubs take on hosting this game?? Concessions only?
With re-sidding the field, there might have to be more income to make it worth the while.
