Sunday Name That Cub
Perhaps when next week begins, there will be some actual Cubs trades or signings to discuss. The winter meetings are just a week away.
Until then, let's have another go at naming a Cub. There are clues here, but I won't give them away.

DINGDINGDING!
Winner.
Marvell Wynne was a throw-in in a trade where the Cubs acquired Luis Salazar late in the 1989 season. That was a good deal for the Cubs as Salazar got some key hits down the stretch and helped them win the division in 1989.

what do you know!
first time I’ve ever gotten one of these right. I remember Wynne both for that trade (because I liked Salazar a lot) and also because I was later reminded of him when the Cubs got Bob Patterson, who had been traded for Wynne (straight up IIRC) earlier in his career. Sweet!

Hey TJ
Thanx for your sympathies about mom. You have a good turkey day?

Yes I did...
I know this one was probably rough for you, but I have found that as time goes on, all that seems to matter is the good times I had with her and for me it makes it easier, though she is missed greatly.
Best wishes to you and your family.
thanks

what are chances we resign Kerry? at 1-3 million, I’d love to see that! (As long as Jim don’t sign him to a 5 yr deal!)

I too want to see Kerry return. He is a guy that bleeds cubbie blue, a gentleman, a chicagoan, a contributor to the area and… just a class act. ‘sides, I can’t stand the “nail-biters” in late innings… last year, I bit my finger nails to the 2nd digit! painful!

Me, bears by 6. Samuals is out. (UNLESS of course, “bad Jay” rears his ugly head…)

Eagles win IMO.
Vick has struggled against Chicago, yes, but he’s been playing better this year than he has in the past.

Not scared at all about Wood.....
Scared that 5 million is too much for the Cubs to spend on a good pitcher.
Why do you have such a thing about Jon Garland?
The Cubs have several pitchers who can be inning-eaters like Garland at 1/10 the price.
Going after free agents just to say the Cubs did is pointless.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
I don't, but since we are going dumpster diving for injured pitchers, there was a healthy one that was relatively cheap was too expensive for the Cubs.
you dont know this
for all you know the Cubs made an offer and were told he is not interested, your assumptions about the $$$$$ has gone from hilarious to sad.

Cheapness....
When they raised prices, they lost me.
If they were good and were trying to win next year, I can see it. But they are not…………
so then why do the Cubs need Garland
for 2 years at $16 million? That isn’t cheap. Another mid-rotation guy isn’t going to do anything for the Cubs chances. I’m not expecting much in 2011 so signing someone like Garland for a deal like that doesn’t excite me.
John Grabow: $4.8 million in 2011.
not talkin 5 million here
just 1-3 million… ok with that?

I think the question you should be asking yourself is...
what are the chances that Kerry would want to sign with the Cubs?
I chuckled at the wording of the featured poll question on the right sidebar – “Should the Cubs go after Kerry Wood? (At the right price, of course.)”
Well, of course we should – especially at the “right price”, whatever that is. We should go after Cliff Lee, Adrian Beltre, and Carl Crawford too – at the right price, of course. But a better question would be something like “Should Kerry Wood consider signing with the Cubs?”.
Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."
"Should Kerry Wood consider signing with the Cubs? (for the right salary of course)"

in 1990, Marvell and Shawon got into a fight on the field during pre game warmups
always nice to see teammates needing to be seperated, especially on the field with the cameras clicking
one said to the other, "You’re not black. You’re too black to be black. You’re purple
fighting words indeed. I found this on the internet “Cubs Marvell Wynne and Shawon Dunston rolled around on the ground, exchanging claws and punches outside the home dugout before a game. Dunston suffered a strained shoulder, and Wynne received three stitches on his forehead to close a cut. Both are African-American, and the fight started when one said to the other, ‘You’re not black. You’re too black to be black. You’re purple.’ They shook hands and co-existed peacefully from that point forward.” http://www2.kusports.com/news/2009/sep/23/its-time-call-truce/

He has to be on the short list of worst draft picks
He struck out in nearly half of his at bats in several seasons. I think he was the pick right after Frank Thomas.

True, but...
Jay played a great ballgame and Julius Peppers was a man amongst boys. It may have been different, but with the way Cutler was throwing the ball, the Bears still may have come out on top.
