Ex-Cub Felix Pie goes bonkers in a winter league game. (The umpire appears to have blown the call, but still.)

As we were told time and time again...

…Felix Pie cannot hit major league pitching. But he can try to hit a Winter League umpire.

Seriously, I saw this earlier and thought to myself that Felix and that ump must have some kind of history. The call does look bad, but Pie’s reaction is way over the top. And I’ve never heard about him being violent like this.

If you look at the video again...

… the game was tied 4-4 in the bottom of the 11th with two out and runners at first and second. Pie represented a run that meant nothing — the winning run was in scoring position. Why he was that far off base is beyond me.

But you may be right, there may be a history between Pie and the umpire.

Ah, OK.

Maybe he was just reacting to the humiliation of getting picked off first to end the game. But still…if that coach hadn’t held him back, he could’ve wound up jail.

But it didn't end the game

As I said, the score was tied. I have no idea who won that game.

He'll be 26 on Opening Day.

Still plenty of career left.

The umpire was in the correct position to make the call, but it looked like Pie’s hand snuck in first, but was blocked by the 1st baseman’s lower body. Still, Al is right, he had no business being that far off of first.

Gotta give that first base coach a lot of credit for holding him back.

Felix looked like he was gonna really go at the ump
