So Cliff Lee ....

….isn’t the only guy around taking less money these days. Nice to have Kerry back and a very good deal for the Cubs!

Wow! i just saw this, 1.5 million!

Gotta love Kerry! I mean are you kidding me? Turned down millions to play for the team he loves, so admirable.

Love it.

What a guy. He belongs here.

Words cannot express...

how happy this makes me!

Great to have Kid K back in Chicago. And even better that he signed for so cheap! I don’t think anyone would have pegged him at 1.5M.

Welcome home Kerry!

by kanderber on Dec 16, 2010 4:31 PM CST reply actions

If true

This almost makes me feel bad for him. Obviously he wasn’t forced to accept that contract, though. And I love the rejection of $2M more to play for the Sox. Awesome signing for the Cubs.

Wood Must Really Love the Cubs

The White Sox supposedly offered him $2 million more, and he went with the Cubs. To be perfectly honest (normally, I lie to you), I would have taken the deal with the White Sox, if I had been Kerry. Wood cares about more than the money.

Wow.

I’ve always been a big fan of Woody more for the way he carries himself rather than what he does on the diamond….but this raises him up a notch in my book.

I’m not sure how much money he is passing on by signing with the Cubs, but I think it is safe to say it is significant.

Thank you Kerry

Showing you love the game and Chicago and cubs fans more than a big paycheck.

*Spitting my drink out!*

WOW!

I am speechless. Kerry Wood basically does what Andre Dawson did in ’87! (not quite, but close…)

Wow. He deserves such a huge positive response when he steps out on the field for his first game of the season. This is fanastic. Stuff like this is WHY i love Baseball!

Ricketts is a huge Cubs fan

And say what you will about him, but what Cubs fan wouldn’t want Kerry on their team?

by ak123 on Dec 16, 2010 4:51 PM CST up reply actions

After reading these boards...

…its obvious some fans don’t want Kerry back.

I was one who did. I am very… VERY happy. I

by TheHawkRules on Dec 16, 2010 5:48 PM CST up reply actions

Some people will never be happy

For me personally I need a player to watch even if the Cubs suck. Kerry Wood is one of those guys. Honestly before he signed I was questioning how much money I want to invest in tickets for the team this year. I have no problems going to tons of games if it means I can see Wood pitch.

by ak123 on Dec 16, 2010 10:23 PM CST up reply actions

I can agree with that.

That is why I got made when Hendry got rid of during his second stint.

by TheHawkRules on Dec 17, 2010 12:44 PM CST up reply actions

In cases of such gross undervaluation...

and that’s just my term for it, the contract seems shockingly cheap, isn’t the Player’s Union likely to have a say or two about it? They have no interest in veterans not pushing the market worth envelope…

As noted elsewhere...

…. there may be incentives and vesting options involved, so the eventual value may be more than that.

by Al Yellon on Dec 16, 2010 5:26 PM CST up reply actions

Which is great

Personally, i wish more contracts were incentive based.

I understand why players don’t like it, but I think there are a lot of advantages in having those.

Wasn’t the last few years of Kerry’s time with the Cubs a bunch of one year deals? I almost wonder if that is what’s happening here again.

by TheHawkRules on Dec 16, 2010 5:51 PM CST up reply actions

Wow Wow Wow

I must say, damn good job Jim Hendry! We bash him when he screws up, gotta praise him when he does a good job.

$4.95 Wood T-Shirt Jersey

I got a Kerry Wood T-shirt jersey from Wrigleyville Sports for $4.95 in 2009. I can break it out again and be current.

Just another reason...

why Kid-K is one of my favorite Cubs of ALL time…welcome back #34….we missed ya!!!

We Got Wood...AGAIN!!! :)

Wow this is great for

the Cubs . Saw Kerry in Mesa in 07 putting his John Hancock on Hats, shirts ect . It was after a game and real hot . He made sure every kid in line got his autograph . He spent extra time with the special needs kids . He was a hero to the kids then and will be again . I stood back and watched and thought that Kerry Wood was a special Cub !!

Kerry Wood must love the Cubs to do this

If any of you go to the season opener at Wrigley, I hope you let him feel the love, and make him feel happy for this decision.
