News On Former Cubs R. Hill, E. Pat, Ryan Harvey
The Red Sox have re-signed Rich Hill, who will resume trying to jump start his career as a reliever. Eric Patterson was sent to the Padres to complete the Gonzalez trade, and Ryan Harvey, former Cub number one pick, is also going to try to re-start his career as a pitcher in the Red Sox organization.

Interesting
Won’t it be great in a few years to ponder someone like Grabow :)

Harvey is just another of the long list of # 1 picks
that never even got close to making the big leagues. Ultimately, this may be the #1 reason why the team has struggled so mightily.
ask not what the Cubs can do for you - ask what you can do for the Cubs.
What really hurts about the Harvey pick
The very next player picked was Nick Markakis, a left-handed hitting OF. Imagine if the Cubs had drafted him instead of Harvey – there would have been no need to throw gobs of money at free-agent OFs in an attempt to get “more left-handed”.

Has anyone on BCB, or elsewhere, created a composite profile of the Cubs' #1 picks through the years?
It must be have been done, but I can’t find the data on-line. It would be most interesting to chart and compare our historical picks to those of the Yankees, Cards & Red Sox since 1982.

The media guides always have a list of the Cub picks
And it’s not pretty.

Ryan Theriot is one of the 10 best draft picks in the team's history?
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

You actually clicked on a Bleacher Report link?
That was your first mistake.

No DTPollit yet?
He tends to love former Cub updates almost as much as Carmen Fanzone loves hearing about your fantasy team.

It's a brutal list
But I do take a little solace in the fact that the farm system has been coming along. It’s certainly not perfect, but I see more steps forward than backward. Although, I think my comment might be a little OT since the list pertains to #1 picks.
