Say what you want about the Ricketts and how they are handling the team (and yes, they have not performed the best there), but now for the 2nd time in 2 years, season ticket holders have gotten a little something as a thank you for being a season ticket holder. Last year it was a hat with season ticket holder embroidered on the back. This year it is a license plate frame. Thank you Ricketts family (and yes, I can be bought cheap)

The Trib did send out nice Cub calendars to the STH.

I just wish they would send out a gift for each ticket. It doesn’t matter if you buy 4 or 100 seats, you only get 1 gift per account. Try splitting a hat among you group.

I'd rather have the calendar.

I won’t put this on my car. Seems kind of pretentious, actually.

I'll put it on my car

But that’s because I have lease years as a STH and so it’s less pretentious. ;)

I disagree

I sorta like it. I was looking for a new frame as my old one was looking pretty worn out, so this came at just the right time. In fact, it is on my car right now.

To each his or her own.

I don’t use a license plate frame on my car. Like I said, I’d rather have had the calendar.

It is nice, but I not only don't have a car, I never learned how to drive.

Maybe Mom will want it

Have You Only Lived in Chicago and New York?

You can get by in both of those cities without a car. That’s not too hard to believe.

Once spent a year in LA

Let’s just say it was interesting.

Damn Right

Though I don’t really consider LA a City. A friend once accused me of being a bigot because I hated suburbs. If you can not WALK to a 24 hour store I don’t want to live there

Grew up in LA

Well, really Studio City/North Hollywood – the San Fernando Valley. To me, I feel like I grew up in a city because I never knew of a gap between my town/neighborhood in LA and the next one, or the one after that. Not like some suburbs around Chicago. I definitely never felt like I came from an isolated suburb.

But I was awestruck at the size of the bridges in NYC.

For me no place without a real mass transit system

is a city.

Just think what you have

saved over the years. No car payment, no car insurance, no parking tickets, ect . Something does have to be said for larger metro areas . Bet someone on e-bay would bid on that plate frame !!

I lived in Studio City for 5 years

On Ventura Blvd and Vineland. I loved that part of town.

I'm a bigot too then. I hate the suburbs....even though I live in them.

And you nailed my reason. It’s the lack of being able to walk anywhere. It’s very hard to find any other transportation than by car. Although I have taken my bike to the train. But that is only when I’m going to Wrigley or downtown. Otherwise you basically have to take your car to get anywhere. Being a city girl at heart I still think it’s a bit absurd to regularly see people hop in their car to drive to a store on the other side of the parking lot.

We couldn’t afford a place in the city, hated the suburbs…so we moved out to the farm land. I love that too. I like both extremes. However, a bunch of people followed our lead (the nerve of them) and this area has now developed itself into a suburb. It’s lost a lot of it’s charm and it disgusts me.

We're out of glue.

Austin, TX and Chicago are the only two homes i have had

my mother did live in Kenosha for a short time, but my dad had custody in Chicago at the time.

Austin isnt bad for mass transit, but it could use some improvement. Then again, $30 for a monthly pass, cant complain too much

Good for Austin Then

I know Austin has really exploded in population in recent years. I’m pleasantly surprised it has a decent mass transit system. There are a lot of cities in the south that don’t even have a decent mass transit system.

LOL

I’ve got a relative at Columbia University that has written a ton of books about urbanization and movement to the suburbs over the years. He’s got an apartment in Manhattan and a house in Westchester County.

Good sentiment, but...

This thing is pretty cheap. The “Season Ticket Holder” and “Chicago Cubs” art on the frame are actually decals that adhere to the frame. I’m doubtful that this will last through a Midwest winter.

I agree with Al—I’d rather have the calendar. It was more practical and the photography in it was actually really good.

But if a cheaper gift means that the team can spend more money toward baseball operations, then I guess I’m fine with it.

I doubt this would significantly impact any operations; the cost is probably far less than one minimum-salary player.

Obviously this one marketing tactic won't

If they sent out 20,000 of these at maybe $1.50 each (including postage), then you’re basically paying for one Soriano plate appearance.

However, I’m just getting to the notion about the need to invest in baseball operations and not trashy fan appreciation items.

You still don't seem to get it.

These budgets are separate. Doing this has absolutely nothing to do with investing in baseball operations, which they are doing. If you believe otherwise, I respectfully suggest that you are incorrect.

Kinda odd considering the Cubs utilize public transportation more than any other club.

by bourbon_and_branch on Dec 18, 2010 4:30 PM CST reply actions

How is that?

Any other club? Umm, thats quite a statement

by californiachicagoan on Dec 20, 2010 1:23 PM CST up reply actions

That's probably true.

The only other teams that likely have as many arrive by public transit would be the Yankees and Red Sox.
