Kinda eerie. Dunno about anyone else, but since Ronnie’s favorite wine was merlot, I’m having some tonight.

I wonder if they

did that intentionally? It’s kind of neat I think.

A lovely story:

One day, long, long ago, there lived a woman who didn't whine, nag or bitch. That would be me....

But that was a long time ago and it was just that one day.

The end

TV or Radio

Does anyone know if it will be broadcast like Harry’s was?

I assume it will be.

If/when I get details of that, I’ll post info.

WGN 9:00 news friday night

said they would be televising the services. No mention of if that applies to WGN America or not.

Is this the same church

that Harry’s service was at ?? Trying to make rail reservations now .

Thanks AL.

THe tribute you wrote about Ron was wonderful . Most Cub fans I talk to are still numb and BCB has really helped them deal with it.

Thank you for the compliment.

It was heartfelt, and yes, I think being here all day yesterday has helped a lot.

Anyone in the Mesa area

and want to meet up somewhere to watch? Not sure where they might turn the TV’s on to show it as it will be early here, but would be nice to watch with other fans.

by RobynCN on Dec 4, 2010 3:19 PM CST reply actions

You might try Diamond's

which used to be Sluggo’s, and before that Harry and Steve’s, across from the Marriott on Centennial. Ronnie used to spend a lot of time there.

Just got off early on Thursday

My boss just called to let me know I can leave at 2 on Thursday to go downtown (work in the N suburbs and don’t drive will have to take cab to train and take it downtown).

It’s nice my coworkers know how much he means to me and another huge Cub fan in the office. We both usually cover phones on Friday morning. The normal afternoon people are doing the phones on Friday morning so we can listen to the WGN radio broadcast on our headphones and we’ll cover in the afternoon. And it’s really nice because Friday afternoon on the phones are almost like an afternoon off and Friday mornings are nuttier than a Christmas fruitcake.

For the funeral

It says there is limited public seating available, is there just going to be a line forming outside the Cathedral and only a select few get in or how does it work?

by cubbykevin on Dec 6, 2010 8:14 AM CST reply actions

Have no idea.

You could probably find out by calling Holy Name.

by cubbykevin on Dec 6, 2010 9:58 AM CST up reply actions

Probably not...

… too busy this week. I’ll be watching though (I assume it will be televised).

Is it just first-come, first-seated in terms of the public?

by bluemagic9 on Dec 7, 2010 5:31 PM CST up reply actions

Yes.

From what I understand, there will be very few seats available to the general public for the funeral itself.

Thursday

Does anyone know how long its going to go on Thursday?

Formerly known as cubstoseriesby100. Thanks Al for letting me change my outdated screenname.

by puckishcubsfan on Dec 6, 2010 7:43 PM CST reply actions

I'm figuring Thursday is the wake

Normal visitation, likely to 9pm or so.

The funeral being Fri will be the services chosen by the family and hence the limited seating. Not the: Go in, pay your respects to the legend, say a prayer, wish the family all the best and leave shortly thereafter.

This is what I did during the wake for Sweetness in ’99 and Maggie in ’03, FWIW.

Just win the next game...!

Anyone know where Ron will be interred?

I assume it will be in the Chicago area since the funeral is there.

by JFCubFan on Dec 7, 2010 10:19 AM CST reply actions

Quade

Is Quade going to be at the funeral? I’m still waiting to hear from him regarding the passing of Ronnie. We have all heard how he “gets it” and what a great organizational guy he is, why isn’t he speaking about the Ron Santo?

by LuvMLB on Dec 7, 2010 10:52 AM CST reply actions

Seriously?

This is your complaint about Quade?

"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra

by Al Yellon on Dec 7, 2010 11:08 AM CST up reply actions

Yes, it is a serious complaint.

I want to know where the leader of the team is. He should have been one of the 1st people to come out to say something. Frankly, Ron Santo was before my time and I don’t have the love for him that so many do, but knowing what Ron meant to the organization and the organization meant to Ronnie, yes, I want to hear from the man.

by LuvMLB on Dec 7, 2010 11:59 AM CST up reply actions

Sorry.

Don’t share your angst over this. Maybe he should have said something, but to bitch about this is, in my opinion, silly.

Silent Quade

After being hired, if we weren’t going to hear from Quade until spring training, don’t give me all this “I Get It” crap. You get a title and a paycheck, end of story.

by LuvMLB on Dec 7, 2010 3:52 PM CST up reply actions

I still think you're making way too big a deal about this.

That’s my opinion. You seem to be the only one bitching about Quade not saying anything.

"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra

by Al Yellon on Dec 7, 2010 4:06 PM CST up reply actions

You do have that right

but @ this point when I still thinking about how sorry I am to hear of Ron’s passing I haven’t given a damn about what this manager or any former managers had said.

But I guess we all grieve differently.

if it's not a big deal

then Quade should be able to say something.

It is clear to me what his slience says:

Quade obviously HATED Ronnie and was secretly happy that he died. The tension during the Mike Quade Show on WGN was apparent. Ronnie called Quade the "fine manager’ but you could tell he didn’t mean it. There was something else going on.

I believe it was the fact that Quade never wore a piece, betraying Ronnie.

by blackhawk24 on Dec 13, 2010 2:33 PM CST up reply actions

you sure you got that right?

maybe Ronnie hated Quade and he had heart attack because Ryno was forced out in a secret plot by Hendry to rid Chicago of both Ronnie and Ryno. The death reports of him dying from cancer were falsified. by fine manager, he meant to say “fire this manager” and it was the only time Ronnie truly hated being a Cub fan

BORING!!!!!

by LuvMLB on Dec 7, 2010 4:21 PM CST reply actions

People pay respect in different ways......

…. Quade being silent could quite possibly be his way. I can see him logically deciding to keep off to the side and not wanting to inject himself or interfere in any way. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I wonder

I wonder if any current players will be there. I’m guessing Dempster and possibly Zambrano. Of more recent now gone players it would surprise me if Kerry isn’t there.
