This cartoon isn't mine.

It’s Mike’s. He draws all the cartoons here.

I wanted to post

on the official Santo memorial post, but I didn’t want my computer to crash from the vast amount of outpouring.

Like most, I really wish he could’ve enjoyed being in the HOF before passing. Such a shame, and the league should feel regretful for such negligence on very worthy candidate.

Also, I can’t imagine how he dealt with his diabetes (I’m type-1) without the aid of a glucometer. I’m certain he felt like garbage for a good majority of his games played, but he obviously showed great consistency throughout his career.

RIP Ronnie Santo….you’ll be missed.

"He's a great candidate," Ryan said. "If I hadn't made him drop in coverage so often on running backs, he might be the all-time sack leader. They call it zone blitzing nowadays. We called it, 'Richard, pick him up.'" - Buddy Ryan on Richard Dent's HOF chances.

Did he say this before or after he past away

There is a jerk sportswriter (John Heyman) on the MLB Network this AM.

Heyman first admits that he only voted for Santo to go into the HoF on his last ballot of eligibility. Heyman claimed, “if you look at his stats, it’s close.”

This is why we can’t have sportswriters making decisions on the HoF. How can this guy say “it’s close?” It seems to me you have to look at Santo’s offensive and defensive stats and recognize (1) Ron played his whole career with diabetes, at a time when it was tough to treat (no blood sugar meters to monitor the condition) and (2) Ron won all of those gold gloves playing his home games on one of the most difficult infields in the NL (the dramatically crowned Wrigley—decades before the field was irrigated and flattened).

Too bad jerks like Heyman denied Ron an honor he should have had while he was alive.

Jayson Stark said something about that, too.

He said he didn’t initially vote for Santo when he got a ballot for the first time because there were already three HoFers from those Cubs teams (Banks, Williams, Jenkins) and how could you have so many HoFers from a team that never won?

Then he realized that the team performance, or lack thereof, didn’t necessarily mean a player as an individual couldn’t be a Hall of Famer, which is the correct thinking.

I wonder how many others penalized Ron because his Cubs teams never won.

I have heard this parrotted many times by voters

I believe it is widespread

Just had to say

that the Pro’s Pizza in the cartoon looks every bit as appetizing as the real things did!

LOL

True. Which is why that brand didn’t last very long.

BWAH!

Yeah, that stuff was even worse than the frozen Jewel brand.

Talked to a few newer* Cub fans yesterday who never knew Ron was in the pizza biz.

*only knew of Ron from WGN
