Why didn't the Cubs go after Ty Wigginton?

He was pretty cheap, 2yr 7.5 mil, and hit .248 with 22 home runs and 76 RBIs last year.

Yes, I forgot about the awesome Chris Davis

Can’t get enough of those 150 strikeout guys!

They already have Jeff Baker

He and Baker essentially fill the same spot.

John Grabow: $4.8 million in 2011.

Bull crap, this guy can play 1st base and hit

Call me when Baker plays 154 games and puts up .248 with 22 home runs and 76 rbi

Please note I didn't say they were equal in quality.

RH backup infielder that can play 1B, 2B and 3B and in a pinch the outfield. That is the same position on the 25 man roster.

John Grabow: $4.8 million in 2011.

Wigginton's numbers

.248/.312/.415

Baker’s:

.272/.326/.413

If Ty Wigginton played 154 games for the Cubs, we’d be in deep trouble. Wigginton just isn’t a very good player.

and Baker

If Baker plays 154 games, we’ll have 90+ losses….

Baker can play first...

…and is a few years younger. In that full season of at-bats you’re trumpeting, Wiggy was barely above replacement value. And he was BELOW replacement value the season before. To mix a metaphor, you’re really just quibbling over spilt milk at this point.

Probably

but this guy is better than some of the other options I hear bandied about.

Not really.

You’re spilling way too much angst over a mediocre veteran.

Because

Hendry is po’d at the Nationals .

JH to Boras:: “Who does this Rizzo guy think he is giving Werth a mulit-year contract for mega-millions? Doesn’t he know I’m the master of that game? I’ll tell you what Boras, I’ll give Pena a 10 year contract at 20 million a season. Just see who they are laughing at now.”

Am I supposed to be impressed by .248 with 22 HR in 650 PAs?

He had a .312 OBP and a .315 wOBA. You are talking about almost $4 million/year for the equivalent of a replacement-level player.

Baker is younger, and at this point in his career is a better defensive player. Plus, with his extreme platoon splits, he definitely has a role on this team without giving him 600 ABs.
