2010 BCB Community Projections: Derrek Lee

D-Lee had the best year of any Cub hitter in 2009, and the second-best of his career. Will he repeat this in 2010, the last year of his contract?

I am indebted to santoswoodenlegs for designing this Google spreadsheet input form; we'll have one for all the starters, starting rotation, and many relievers and bench players. Incidentally, if you posted numbers for Geovany Soto yesterday before about 3:40 pm CST and didn't put them in the spreadsheet, go here and enter your projections for Geo.

After the jump, enter your picks for Derrek Lee.

I put low at bats

I expect some minor neck problems and Lou will rest him for a few days after that. Other than that, I expect a big year for Lee

The minor neck problems he had last year...

… made him miss a few games. He still played in 141 games; I’d expect about the same this year, which should still give him well over 500 AB.

Exactly

But I’m not expecting 650. I put it at 601 I think

I totally agree

After what we saw last year, barring any injuries I truly believe we are in for a big year from Lee!

D.Lee of old?

being a contract year, if others around him perform, and give him some protection, could be HUGE!!

Pic

Anyone else getting the link to the pic instead of the Picture of Thanks when you do the projections?

Google Document Forms won't show the pic...

only the link.

As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

next year

do you think we will see DLee in cubbie blue in 2011?

by wrigley12 on Feb 10, 2010 1:34 PM CST reply actions

Good question.

Depends on a lot of things: team need, how he does this year, what kind of contract extension he’s looking for, etc.

farm

do you know our 1st baseman situation in the minors?

by wrigley12 on Feb 10, 2010 2:41 PM CST up reply actions

No one of note.

I assume if D-Lee leaves, there’s a pretty good chance Aramis Ramirez might move to 1B in 2011.

I

did not even consider that as an option. That would hopefully keep him “injury free”. That would also leave room for Vitters—if he progresses at 3rd. I also heard rumors that Vitters may be a viable left fielder for the Cubs in the future (due to defensive concerns). I remember reading that he did well in Arizona fall ball. If he develops that could be a strong corner infield for the Cubs.

Possible...

… but I imagine the Cubs will try real hard to keep at least one of them, if not both.

If the Cubs and DLee do well in 2010, yes

if the Cubs and DLee do poorly, no,

if the Cubs do well and DLee does poorly, no,

and if the Cubs do poorly and DLee does well, no.

what about moving Soriano to 1st Base in 2011??

just wondering. He is awful in left, surely he would be no worse at 1st.

i expect

good seasons from lee and ramirez. these 2 men have been such a huge assetfor the last 7 years. this could be the last for both. dont know if the cubs will want a 37 yr old derek lee or not. if not maybe they will take a look at carlos pena. but lets enjoy them both for the 2010 season.
