Watching Paint Dry At Wrigley Field

Laugh if you will, but they are indeed painting the exterior at Wrigley Field, and that will make the ballpark, as you approach on either the Addison or Clark St. side, look brighter and newer. In this photo you can see the difference between the newly painted panel (left) and unpainted panel (right).

After the jump, more photos of the work being done at Wrigley, taken on Saturday, February 13 around noon.

Does this mean

we will have a future post “watching the grass grow at Wrigley”?. All kidding aside, the photos make me very homesick, as I am working in Philly at the moment.

Which raises the question.

What goes faster: paint drying or grass growing?

Nice pics.

Happy Valentines Day everyone!

Okay is it just me or is spring training kind of sneaking up on anyone else? The last time I felt this way was 2007 but I think that was because of the Bears finishing their run a week before pitchers and catchers report.

Got my CD ready to listen to Here Comes the Sun on Wednesday.

Just drove by and it was

weird to think pitchers and catchers report in a few days while the skating rink is still open, and busy today! BTW over the weekend I saw an old baseball film that included footage of Wrigley Field shot during the 1935 World Series. The wrought iron around the facade looked great. A return to that look would be just the thing.

Did the same thing this afternoon...

Had to go see it first hand… the ice rink was busy, busy: V-Day skating on a nice sunny afternoon.

Voice of the Turtle...

Every year, Tiger’s HOFer Ernie Harwell began the first Spring Training broadcast with the following:

For, lo, the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone;
The flowers appear on the earth;
The time of the singing of birds is come,
And the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.

THEN and only then did we know that it was truly spring!

Soon…very soon :)

My beloved spake, and said unto me,

Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;
The flowers appear on the earth;
the time of the singing of birds is come,
and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land;
The fig tree putteth forth her green figs,
and the vines [with] the tender grape give a good smell.
Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

Didn't make it up last season...

…so I had not really gotten a good look at the Captain Morgan’s Club. I must say, that is hideous looking! I can’t believe the Cubs were allowed to add that kind of an addition to a historic structure such as Wrigley.

I agree.

They could have done a better job. It doesn’t seem consistent with the park.
