Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

I am an avid Cubs collector, and recently acquired the find of a lifetime,” writes Rob Steinmetz. “It’s a 1909 Harry Steinfeldt road jersey (Steinfeldt was the fourth member of the infamous Tinker to Evers to Chance infield), acquired from a Chicago-area family that owned the jersey for 100+ years. This is a one-year style road jersey, in all original condition. The jersey was originally obtained by a family member who had a tryout with the Cubs shortly after Steinfeldt’s departure. He didn’t make the team, and kept this jersey.” There are some spectacular details here, including the curved rear yoke, the buttonholes on the sleeves (so long-sleeve attachments could be added if desired), and the little clasp on the cadet collar. …

One of Al's favorites...

This was only wore one year by the Cubs, and I’d bet that this is the most well preserved jersey from that team.

Outstanding.

I really do like those uniforms. If you re-did them in the current team colors, I’d love to have that as an alt jersey.

I just think they are ugly.

The mock collar, colors, and Chicago down the front is pretty bad. Just my opinion.

Well, like I said...

… I’d want to see them in the current colors. I don’t like the mock collar, either — that’s an early 1900’s style. They’d obviously get rid of that.

I do like the vertical “CHICAGO”, though.

Obviously, it's not the SHIRT STYLE I like...

… it’s the design. Put that on a modern jersey and it’d be really nice.

Not really Grampa.

As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

Forget the colors...

I think if they kept those colors but modernized the materials and general cut it would look pretty amazing.

I tend to agree...

but it’d have to be a road uniform, because I believe that no one should wear their city name on their home jersey.

But, in spirit I agree. I wouldn’t mind seeing an update of the “cub with bat” logo that’s been popular with a lot of fans lately.

I'm OK with that, too.

I agree that any such alt would be for road use only.

Throwbacks are nice

And trust me I would know, I own over 20 Mitchell and Ness Cubs Flannels, and in particular like the 1909 look. But we have used the “C” with the ubs as our primary logo for the most part of the 20th century. I’m partial to it, and wish that if they had to do the blue alts they would incorporate that logo back into them. If they want to don the old 1909 look as a throwback thing, then thats fine. But i think it would look funny to try and interpret that look with our modern jersey colors, fabrics, and cuts. What we can do is stay true to the pinstripes and our primary logo. Which we have at least done consistently from the 1950s to present.
