Wells was a pleasant surprise for the Cubs last year. Bruce Miles profiles him. I think Wells really understands what it takes to succeed and, if he can perform as he did last year, the Cubs have produced another fine pitcher.

He won't.

Most of Rich Hill’s problem is in his head. That’s one place we shouldn’t have to worry about Wells.

Agreed.

Plus, Randy’s mechanics and pitch repetoire seem much more geared toward long-term success.

Thanks for the link

Randy’s come a long way here from the days when he was just one of many young pitchers looking to make an impression. He seems determined to keep moving forward. He’s a good guy to deal with, too.

Good to hear

Seems pretty well rounded, and that’s never a bad thing.

Hope he spends a lot of time working and talking with Maddux.

There is a HUGE amount riding on Randy Wells

Which is disconcerting given that he literally came out of nowhere in 2009 and has to prove it all over again in 2010. I like Wells and I have faith in Wells. But God save the queen if he proves out to be a one year wonder. The Cubs will be a lead pipe cinch for 90 losses if Wells can’t come through in reasonable fashion.

The Blackhawks and the Stanley Cup in 2010.

His approach

appears to be in Maddux fashion. Obviously not as skilled, however if Maddux can give just a tad of help to Wells it would be beneficial.
I still believe the majority of success this year lies with the rebound of Soto and Soriano, but that does not lessen the importance of Wells and Marmol

I like Randy and the

way he handled himself last season. Hope he has another great season.

OK I don't know shit about basketball.

Great profile, Bruce.

Can I make a silly request of either you (or Al when you get to AZ) ? If you get a chance to talk to Randy again, could you ask him whether he’s really on Twitter as @rwells36bsi?

I know this is really lame, but he would be the first Cubs player on Twitter – ever – and I’ve been trying to get someone to verify this for some time.

Thanks!
