2010 BCB Community Projections: Tom Gorzelanny
And now, we get to uncertainty.
Up to now, most of the players I've posted in this projection series are either regulars among position players, or pitchers guaranteed a spot in the rotation.
What do you think will happen with Tom Gorzelanny? He had a solid year for the Pirates in 2007, then got hurt and had an awful 2008. By the time the Pirates traded him to the Cubs, he had spent most of 2009 in Triple-A. He showed flashes of that 2007 form with the Cubs, but also had some awful outings.
Post your projection after the jump. (Incidentally, Xavier Nady will wear #22 this year. Gorzelanny has switched to #32.)

I'm not gonna do predictions b/c I suck at them
But I think not being in a trainwreck of a franchise and two years away from his major injury will do wonders for his stability.
[...]when Giants coach Steve Owen, a certified defensive genius, was asked how he planned to stop Nagurski, he said: "With a shotgun, as he’s leaving the dressing room."
I hope you're right.
If Gorz can even come close to his 2007 performance, the Cubs will have a really good #4 or #5 starter.

That would be nice, but somehow I'm not holding my breath

Me three.
I don’t expect anything from him, I just hope he doesn’t hurt the Cubs to bad.

I would like nothing better than Gorz put together a Marquis-type 5th starter year
Having two lefties in the rotation would help the the three righties and allow Jackson and Cashner develop in Iowa.

I don't think it is at all unreasonable to expect Gorzelanny to give us that
Something around a 4.50 ERA from the #5 spot. Sure, we’d all like another #2 back there, but like most teams we can’t afford that luxury. I’m definitely rooting for him or Marshall to give us the second lefty like you said.
Yeah
I did finally make a prediction, though. I think 23 starts, which is fine for a #4 or #5.

You'll get your chance to project Marshall soon.

Gorzellany is better than Maddux
I have him at 29-3 with a 0.06 ERA and 356.2 IP
Thanks for taking this seriously.
Most everyone else is.

My prediction:
Gorzellany will benefit greatly in BCB perception due to the fact that his first start as a Cub was awesome, which allows us all to gloss over the rest of them, which were nasty, brutish, and/or short. Heck, I doubt many of us even saw his season-ending shellacking at the hands of the Diamondbacks.

I guess there IS hope that not everyone on BCB is saturated with the kool-aid.

Gorzellany is a complete crapshoot
It’s as simple as that. I personally like him on the roster, but that said he could just as well be a valuable swingman operating out of the pen and rotation…or a complete and total disaster the likes of which will actually make us root for the return of Aaron Heilman. Hopefully Gorzellany can be slightly above serviceable operating in a middle relief role.

I think
that he will pitch in the bullpen.I hope that he, Grabow, and Marshall will be our key south-paws in the bullpen.
