Ricketts at Spring Training
Nice write up on his feelings to date about what it has been like to be the owner of the Chicago Cubs. Along with that what he has noticed about the fans passion and loyalty, the players and conditioning and the coaches and how hard they work.
I'm getting pumped guys, this is gonna be a fun summer!

While he's claimed he will be "hands off"..........
………….as I read more about Ricketts, I’m wondering if he will truly be able to maintain such a position. His visibility is very high and that is many times linked to greater involvement on the field.

In his position as CEO of Incapital...
… a company in which he has far greater knowledge of the industry than he does in baseball, he did the same thing: hired good managers and stepped aside and let them do their jobs.
I have no problem believing he’ll do the same as owner of the Cubs. Visible? Yes, but that doesn’t translate into “involvement”, necessarily.

Understood..............
……….and I don’t disagree, but there’s something about dealing with the “meal ticket” versus the handling of a “hobby” that makes me wonder about how this will unfold over the longer term.

I think Tom Ricketts is smart enough...
… to know the difference between being the owner, and a public face, and interfering in baseball decisions.

I agree completely
And in no way does one have to effect the other. I think Rickett’s said exactly what he intends to do – and of course now I cannot find the link – but the general goal was to be hands off on baseball decisions, but to be available and visible to players, management, fans, and media.
I personally love the approach, time will tell how successful it is.
I have to agree
I think it is great that he is out and about and visible to not only the players and staff, but to us as fans as a whole.
I really want to believe that by being more involved and available that it will be a benefit to the team like Lou said. One can only hope.
Keep the faith gang, it’s gonna be a fun spring and summer~!
You will never move forward by looking back....

his being a fan of the Cubs
I am sure plays in a little also, he has access and a closeness that every one of us wish we did from a fans point of view alone.
I want him very very close, so that come the trade deadline, he might open the wallet a little if needed to compete.
