Why would Ascanio and Hart be listed so low?

by Al Yellon on Feb 24, 2010 1:29 PM CST up reply actions

I noted the Ascanio and Hart errors

Thanks for running through the list like that.

FYI, Alcantara was a 19 year old last year in VSL with a .764 OPS. Borges was 25 and had a .800 OPS. Or so says my Excel file.

Lee over Castro. ???

No problem

Excel helped out a lot with sorting out the Cubs.

Sam Fuld above Jeffry Antigua?

Larry Suarez way above both of them? John Gaub below all of them? (well, I have Gaub below Antigua.) This list is crap.

I notice he just decided to throw all the Asian players he knew nothing about together in one pile.

Formula

I was reading the site and he used a formula and said this when people questioned his rankings:

“It’s not completely from my formula. I went thru and gave everyone a grade manually based on what I feel their floor and ceiling are. I added that to the formula and came up with this.
I weighted ceiling higher than floor, though.”

Rankings are off for sure.

Why is Michael Parisi rated as 1697?!?!?!

I would have had him way closer to the low 1600’s, this list is BS man!

Major League 3: Back to the Minors

Their 2B and SS were both named Juan Lopez, as they were twins. However, they didn’t get along too well.

that was my first thinking

What would you put on the back of the jersey?

_ Wang

one thing funnier

would be

1719. Tzu An Wang, P, CHC
1720. Yao Lin Wang, P, CHC
1721. Yao-Lin Wang, P, CHC

then the new official Cubs song would have to be Wang Chung

On the Cleveland site,

someone was mentioning hoe South Koreans are required to do two years of military service before their 30th birthday. I haven’t Snopes’d it, but thought I’d throw it out there here.

by tim815 on Feb 24, 2010 1:34 PM CST reply actions

It's true.

Here’s how it might affect Shin-Soo Choo.

and at some point,

many of our prospects. I have a new squad to cheer for in the Asian Games.

by tim815 on Feb 24, 2010 1:46 PM CST up reply actions

He won't go

Rob Neyer had a column on this. He’s not going to lose two of his most productive years and millions of dollars for military service. He has a “backup plan.”

It could be that Choo would pursue citizenship in the United States. Perhaps more likely is the possibility that he would simply not return to his native land and avoid the obligation.

That’s from an mlb.com story on the issue.

Thanks for the reminder.

I knew I had seen that story yesterday somewhere, couldn’t remember where.

Am I missing Rebel Riding?

I don’t see him and he certainly should make a list THAT long.

You'd think he would

but the list is clearly nonsense, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

by Josh Timmers on Feb 24, 2010 4:54 PM CST up reply actions

The Cubs seem very high on Riding

and having given up Pie, Buck Coats, Rocky Cherry etc, he is the last fun name we have.

Funny, I haven't

heard anyone say that any of those 3 will have a great season. Maybe Parisi will be adequate enough to be an emergency starter of more value than Samardzija. Perhaps Berg or Caridad will have an ERA below 4.8.

Not hearing either called ’the next….(really good pitcher)".
