Yeah, I definitely think it was the divorce.

I mean, it’s not like Aaron Miles was alone in having a tough time off the field. Dempster found out his daughter had a chronic disease that could be life threatening and he had a rought year as well, right?? Wait… what??? he posted a 123 ERA+?!? Are you sure??

Well, either way, it’s not like Miles was THAT bad… he certainly wasnt one of the worst offensive players in the history of baseball in 2009… wait, you said he had a OPS of .466? I’m sorry, you clearly meant SLG… No? WTF? Well, if he was a professional MLB player he must have at least been great defensively… wait, you’re saing that he had a -6.8 UZR at 2B and a -44.4 UZR at SS in 2009?? Is that even possible??

Well, regardless, it must have been the divorce….

True, because without that, he was on the way to the HOF. Those divorces

derail all great baseball careers. Good thing no decent player ever had to go through a divorce in the MLB. ha

may addition by subtraction be real

Oh come on.

He didn’t blame the divorce. At all.

I do love Dusty’s line though…. “he’s a tough out.” Umm, Dusty? You pronounced “automatic” incorrectly.

Hey, that's not fair.

Weakly hit bouncers to second can be tricky.

He doesn't clog the bases either

Dusty is going to love this guy.

And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.

In Bakerese, "tough" translates into "automatic" in English.

Who cares if he's a Cubs fan? This is a football forum! He is a PACKER fan as well. So, from now until March, I’m sure he’ll dedicate a lot of his time here. In late March, then we can be enemies during the baseball season. Besides, the Cubs have perhaps the most loyal baseball fanbase in the country. You have to respect that.

Go Pack!

it isn't Miles' fault that Hendry threw that money at him

I would have taken the money as well. St. Louis non-tendered Miles after the 2008 season, rather than give him a 1 year contract. So Hendry gave him a 2 year contract. 1 for Miles, and 1 for the wife. I’m sure they will both be fine, and surely Miles can find another girl, even if 2010 is his final payday.

I have some sympathy for Miles, at this point

I’m sure I’m not alone among posters here who have taken a job that just doesn’t work from the start, and the thing snowballs and gets worse and worse. I’m pretty sure that happened to Miles last year, in addition to the divorce. A change of scenery was definitely the best thing for him.

That said, he’s NOT a very good baseball player, and the Cubs clearly overpaid him and overestimated his abilities. If I were a Reds fan, I’d be very worried that veteran-obsessed Dusty Baker would find too many ways to get a switch-hitting scrappy player like Miles into the lineup too often.

I'd say we had a bad year

because the Cubs didn’t divorce itself from Miles’ services earlier than it did.
