Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

I'd be shocked if this rumor is true. I figured the new Yankee Stadium would be next. My personal choice would be The Big House in Ann Arbor.

This sentence doesn't make any sense.
Boston Red Sox owner John Henry says the installation of an ice rink in Fenway Park this winter for a game between the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers, but you can be sure the team will be reaping the benefits of the good feeling it brought to every single Bostonian who skated there during the open public skates as well as all the prep school and amateur hockey teams that got to take to the ice as well.

Yeah it's certainly a weirdly written article.

That’s why I said it’s still a rumor.

I had heard Yankee Stadium was next in line.

Nationals Park? Interesting idea, but maybe a couple years down the line. I think Philadelphia would be a logical choice, too.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the Nationals...

…losing out on the ASG to Fenway?

I don’t think they should only confine it to baseball stadiums. As I mentioned, I think Michigan Stadium would be a cool place to host it. Seats over 100,000 and is 40 miles or so to Hockeytown.

Possible, although...

… I know when they had it in Buffalo, the hockey rink kind of got lost in that huge football stadium. The baseball fields are more intimate and give better sightlines — and I think make for better TV, too.

plus Detroit was just in one

NHL wants to move it around without the same teams popping up too often taking away from it. I am sure Detroit will get it in a few years tho

Yeah the writer left something out

I’m sure it was supposed to be something like: “…game between the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers was an inconvenience, but you can be sure ….”

Article definatly missing something

and John Henry got more than the “benefits of the good feeling it brought to every single Bostonian who skated there during the open public skates as well as all the prep school and amateur hockey teams that got to take to the ice,” he got $10-30,000 a game…

if it's washington

i imagine they would be

a) Paying Leonsis back for not only being a good owner, but a good league owner
b) trying to take advantage of the Capitals at their peak
c) Trying to spur hockey in the nation’s capital – with the other sports teams struggling, the capitals have taken center stage, and trying to kick this city into being a stronger hockey city might be a key goal

That said …. the ideal opponent would be Pittsburgh, which would bring an awesome scenario in terms of coverage and fan interest, but the Penguins played in Buffalo, so I’m not sure they would put them back on the docket so soon.

It’d be great for the area.

if it is

They could be at the mercy of the weather that day.

The possibility of mild temps in DC in Jan could pose problems – Sunny & mid 40’s = poor ice conditions.

From what I recall from last year's classic at Wrigley...

… they said they could keep the ice in good shape as long as the temperature stayed below 50.

It would figure, right? This year they had a horrendous winter in the DC area, cold and snowy. They’d get this game and then it’d probably be 60 degrees on New Year’s Day.

After going to the Camp Randall Classic

I’d encourage them to keep it in baseball stadiums. we had decent seats and it was still tough to follow. I can’t imagine what the people really far back or in the endzone did.
