MLB Network To Televise Several Cubs Spring Training Games
Good news -- in addition to the nine Cubs ST TV games on either CSN or WGN, the March 19 game vs. the White Sox that will be on CSN (with the Sox broadcasters, sound optional), MLB Network has added several Cubs games to its spring training schedule.
March 23 vs. Royals, 3 pm CST March 26 vs. A's, 3 pm CST April 1 vs. Rockies, 3 pm CST (game also on CSN)
In addition, the following games will be on the MLB Network on tape delay:
March 19 vs. White Sox, 10 pm CST March 22 vs. Indians, 8 pm CST March 28 vs. Mariners, 8 pm CST
The press release says these games will be blacked out in each team's home territory -- that doesn't make any sense if the games aren't being carried in the home markets, but leave it to MLB to do something that makes no sense. It also makes no sense for tape-delayed games. The complete MLB Network spring schedule after the jump.

Does 'home territory' mean Arizona or Chicago?
If it’s Chicago, I agree – it doesn’t make any sense.
Yankees suck.
I am trying to get clarification on this.
If I can get it, I’ll post it.

I don't think it makes sense no matter where it is
It’s freaking spring training, why black out ANY spring training games?
I guess I'm just a worrier, that's why my friends call me whiskers

What?
It is amazing that the games will be blacked out in the home territory. It appears the MLB thought process is, “We don’t want fans to see our product”.
I would love to find out the mentality behind the blackout decision. It makes no sense in this day and age.
The 2010 Randy Hundley Fantasy Camp ruled!!!!
It's completely idiotic.
It only makes sense IF the game is being carried on the local channel. In the case of the three live games (3/23, 3/26 and 4/1), that’s true only once (4/1, when the game will be on CSN).
HEY MLB! IF THE GAME ISN’T BEING CARRIED IN THE LOCAL MARKET, WHY WOULD YOU BLACK IT OUT?!?!?!
(Maybe they’ll hear me if I shout.)

it is so asinine
Living in Vegas, when the Cubs play the dodgers I sometimes can catch the extra game vs LA, unless it is blacked out, IN VEGAS!. Why would a company black out an area that has no professional team. Because some ancient rule says Las Vegas is Dodger territory.
Senseless foolishness I say.
The 2010 Randy Hundley Fantasy Camp ruled!!!!
Agreed.
As noted above, it wouldn’t make any sense to black these games out in Arizona, since Cubs games are not routinely televised there.

What a bunch of idiots. Why wouildn't you like to expose your product to
the largets possible audience? It makes you wonder what kind of marketing strategy they have at these places.

Bud's comments about these sort of situations is very telling
I remember when he was planning to give the “extra bases” package to DirecTV only, and when he was asked why he would attempt to disenfranchise the tens of millions of baseball fans who don’t have DirecTV, his response was something along the lines of “tough noogies! They should change to DirecTV is they have a problem with it!”
Baseball is very poorly run, and it’s starts with the Commish.

It really annoys me. Bud knows he can actively mistreat the fans
and they’ll keep coming back, because baseball is that kind of sport.

I don't believe there were any blackouts
on the MLB Network last year for spring training games. Even though it says there are (and it did last year too) they only blacked out the regular season games in the home territory last season.
Hey, it's a new century!

That makes sense.
It might have been just left on the format of the press release I got. I’m still awaiting some clarification on this. When I get it, I’ll post it.

Nothing earlier?
I will in AZ from the 16th-23 and on the road for the week after. Guess I can see the April Fool’s Day game.

How many stops is it from Phoenix to Syracuse?
They only have a couple airlines still flying there, IIRC.

That is why I love JetBlue
PHX-NYC- NYC-SYR & all REAL Jet service. I could have taken Continental and gotten a GREAT airfare but it would have meant taking “fake” Continental aka we have untrained pilots “Colgan Air” to Syracuse. I used miles to get to PHX ( have to stop in Dallas) and JetBlue coming back. Would have loved to take JetBlue coming, but all the cheap seats were gone.

I'll miss all of those...
Oh, wait… I’ll be there live…. but this means my brother can’t watch here in Chicago? How can he laugh at me if I get hit by another home run ball?

In Spring Training?
I was tired and I forgot to bring a hat, hence the newspapers covering my head. Hey you did not catch that ball anyway so how much attention where you paying?

Paying attention doesn't necessarily mean catching the ball.
It does mean not getting hit by it, though.

Actually I think it bounced over me
Honestly I don’t pay THAT much attention in ST games.

Uh, oh. Report from ST today: "Ryan Theriot is plucked."
http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/02/cubs-injury-report-guzman-hurt-theriot-plunked.html
Ryan Theriot was hit in the left hand by a pitch from rookie Rafael Dolis, but was OK. “It’s gonnna happen,” Piniella said. “First time, kids are a little nervous, trying to impress and overthrow the ball a little bit. Somebody is going to get plucked.”

"Look, what do you want me to do?"
Not picking on you, but that was the least newsworthy section of a pretty newsworthy article.
Caridad is on the team unless he blows in the spring? I hadn’t heard that, am I behind the curve?
And Guzman is hurt again………that is one brittle player

It was a Lou-ism. Plucked. It was funny.
