Just saw this clip.

Man, Freddy is HAMMERED. He looks like he’s about to fall down. I can’t even get mad about what he said because he’s so freakin’ sh*tfaced. (And I’ve always kinda liked Freddy.)

Cubbie-Tim, aka Mr. English Grammar

So when you stated this:

didnd Dr Crawdad say that bashing of the Cubs didnt happen at their Fan Fest while he took shots at the Cub fans about it happening?”

So I guess you admit Mr. English Grammar that that part of your question is bullshit, as you no doubt know now that I never said that. What would you call that question then?

I never claimed “that bashing of the Cubs didn’t happen at (SoxFest)” so your point?

IIRC asking a question about something as small as baseball doesnt deserve what this turned into. 25 or so comments here about Garcia’s stupid drunken remarks and 12 or more by Cubbie fans in the ChicagoBreakingSports comments section. Interesting to see all of this disinterest.

I’m not sure which is more trashy: Freddy swaying back and forth dropping drunken (or dope-induced) f-bombs and mother f-bombs; or the Tribune thinking this is an appropriate video to showcase on their website.

The title of the post is How White Sox Pitcher Freddy Garcia really feels about the Cubs. Maybe we all clicked on it in hope of him saying he loves the Cubbies? Maybe we clicked in hope he’d finally break his legendary silence in regards to the grey or blue road jersey?

In all seriousness, I care about very few things in life and the majority of it I won’t find on the internet. Stop trying to take the high moral ground just because a drunk White Sox got caught making an ass of himself.

Any Sox topic on ChicagoSports.com, or the Sun-Times there are Cubbie fans blasting the Sox. Then when there is Cubbie article as soon as a Sox fan posts something Cubbie fans start with the “obsession” and the usual blather and put-downs. It’s much the same here.

Cubbie fans repeatedly claim not to care about the Sox and then prove that by posting about them.

It is an interesting bit of, help me here arm-chair psychiatrists, self-deception.

Where, when?

I’ve said that I don’t care about the Cubs? Where? When?

Here is my profile commentary on this subject:

I’ve followed both teams for years. I attended my first game at Wrigley in 1985 & was in the left-field bleachers (front row!) for Mark Prior’s first home game. There were many others too!

I think it’s certainly possible and reasonable for someone to be a fan of one team and follow the other baseball team in town too. I am a fan of the Sox, that’s the team I’m emotionally invested in. However, I admit (without a blush) to following the Cubs. I am a fan of baseball. I don’t see why that’s weird to some Cubs and Sox fans.

If I were in NYC, or Detroit or where ever I’d still be a fan of the Sox but I’d follow that local team and wish to discuss that team. And in that arena, if someone pounded the Sox, I’d stick up for my team.

I’ve said, I don’t think I know of Sox fans who claim not to care about the Cubs, then post about them. That’s what Cubbie fans here there and just about everywhere do. They loudly boast that they don’t care about the Sox, as they’re talking about the Sox. (Several here have loudly said they don’t give a damn about the Sox and then got pissed off when I pointed to their dozens of posts about the Sox.)

If you don’t care about the Sox, fine with me but prove it by not posting about them. And if a Sox fan says, I don’t care about the Cubs, then they too should live up to their words.

I think you have a warped view of what "caring" is

For someone not to care, in your apparent logic, they must totally ignore and not respond to any comment made on the subject of their non caring. Seems a little extreme.

I see it as whether anyone here has actually taken this to heart. Very few have. Most have given a few flippant off-handed comments dismissing the incident because it is so small in relevance.

Apparently, Sox fans are not allowed to comment about the Cubbies. Cubbie fans say they don’t talk about the Sox, and when they do (as they often do) no one is allowed to call them out on that, um hypocrisy.

The video is posted there, it’s not a secret. He talks about the Cubs, from what little of his slurred speech I could understand. It’s perfectly fine to notice and briefly discuss it. We will not burn in hell for our hypocrisy, nor would

But if there was a video of Tim Lincecum crapfaced and talking about how much he hates the White Sox, I’m sure it’d be quite the topic of discussion on White Sox blogs. And for good reason.

Of all the people here you are clearly taking this to heart like no one else. What does that say about you (as an apparent metonym for all Sox fans)?

Huh?
This from a man who repeatedly posts that White Sox fans aren’t obsessed with the Cubs…

No doubt you’ve got several examples, quotes, in mind where I’ve said that. I don’t remember saying that, perhaps you can refresh my failing memory. I’m sure you can easily support that accusation with proof.

Maybe not ideal examples, but that was a 30 second search. I don’t feel like wasting any more time on it . . . besides, others here know that you do it. You know you do it. Your profile used to say it.

Not only not ideal at all
(DrCrawdad) repeatedly posts that White Sox fans aren’t obsessed with the Cubs…

The three links are great, I mocked the perpetual Cubbie put-down of Sox fans as “Cub obsessed” which I find a fascinating put-down whilst they’re at Sox games or posting messages about the Sox, like this for example.

Are Sox fans obsessed with the Cubbies? I don’t care. Here is my point of view, but you and Cubbie-Tim are battling, not me but Strawdad:

I think it’s certainly possible and reasonable for someone to be a fan of one team and follow the other baseball team in town too. I am a fan of the Sox, that’s the team I’m emotionally invested in. However, I admit (without a blush) to following the Cubs. I am a fan of baseball. I don’t see why that’s weird to some Cubs and Sox fans.

If I were in NYC, or Detroit or where ever I’d still be a fan of the Sox but I’d follow that local team and wish to discuss that team. And in that arena, if someone pounded the Sox, I’d stick up for my team.

as i have given you before

here is a second name of someone who says they care less about the cubs on SSS yet continue to post often about the Cubs

Where Triples Go to Die

such great posts as

HOW FUNNY WOULD IT BE IF WE ALL DRESSED UP LIKE CUB FANS AND TRIED TO ATTACK ZAMBRANO MID SEASON??? WILL BE POSTING ABOUT THIS SSS STYLE MEET-UP SHORTLY.

“I don’t know how you guys measure worth…but I do know you idiots need a graph to show you that Josh Fields sucks…”
by Where Triples Go to Die on Jan 18, 2010

which was two years after

Wow you are a moron! I could care less about the cubs. I just think it’s funny making fun of juicy fruits especially if they happen to be cub fans. Anyone who listens to ICP is a fag in my book, sox or cub fan.

which is exactly the opposite of what you continue to say, that Sox fans who state they care less dont contnue on about the Cubs. He has some 70 post about the Cubs, mostly after he said that he doesnt care.

You know, the posts of yours with actual content are interesting

And they show that you know baseball. It’s too bad that you insist on concealing that behind the thin-skinned, Cub-fan baiting persona. Viva El Pujols doesn’t feel the need to be like that when he posts here, for example.

Not upset

I suspected he was a heavy drinker when he pitched for Seattle. Way too inconsistent, in spite of his talent, and obvious physical strength. I told my wife back then that I was pretty sure Garcia was a drunk.

I do agree that it might be bad taste for the press to perpetrate this, however.

What

makes everyone around here automatically think Garcia is a “drunk”. I’m sure alot of people here have been this drunk and said dumb things. It doesnt mean he’s got some kind of problem.

Seems like a lot of people are jumping to conclusions about what kind of person he is.

You should have seen the Reinsdorf thread.

Am I glad I stayed out of that. Things over there got so ugly that comments were closed, after just one day.

Who cares if he's a Cubs fan? This is a football forum! He is a PACKER fan as well. So, from now until March, I’m sure he’ll dedicate a lot of his time here. In late March, then we can be enemies during the baseball season. Besides, the Cubs have perhaps the most loyal baseball fanbase in the country. You have to respect that.

Nah man.

It doesn’t affect me, much like “discussions” on who’s the most awesomest poster and such. I posted here because I loved Goodie’s story and was “impressed” at some people’s desire to be artificially irritated.

Ah, I see what you're getting at.

And I agree with you, if I were with her and she told off a White Sox (or Cardinals) player like that, I would have proposed to her on the spot.

Does

nobody realize that someone asked him to say “fuck the cubs”. Why don’t you people actually watch the video. Clearly somebody says “hey carlos say fuck the cubs” and he does it because he’s drunk. Who cares? How many of you out there have said fuck the white sox in public when your drunk?

This is totally not a big deal.

Who's saying it was a big deal?

Seems like everyone’s just having a laugh about it.

It isn't a big deal and it is obvious someone eggs him on to say it.

But congratulations on thinking you were the only person to watch the video. Everyone else is still trying to get the handle of this internets thing…
