By Telephone: Tickets can be purchased by telephone through Tickets.com beginning at 10 a.m. The Tickets.com phone number for Illinois callers is 800-The-Cubs (800-843-2827). The phone number for out-of-state callers is 866-652-2827.

Ahhh, time to gird our loins for the hell that is known as: THE VWR

Now only 12,859 on the "Cubs Season Tickets Waiting List"...
All Ye Who Enter Here Abandon All Hope
(Of getting anything productive done while you wait to buy tickets.)
LOL
Last year I did the smart thing and just took a day off of work. I actually had the best luck I’ve ever gotten with the VWR, and had all the tickets I wanted by lunchtime. Which partially makes up for a few years back when I was stuck in the VWR until seven freaking PM.
Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so.
I think 2004 was the worst year.
They didn’t have the infrastructure yet to accomodate the huge crowds looking for single-game tickets after the near-miss of 2003.

Glad to see nothing has changed from the last few years
with exception of the actual dates.
Just win the next game...!
Looking forward to picking out my daughter's first game at Wrigley
At 3 and a half years old this Summer we’re going to make our way to Wrigley for her first Baseball game. I’m pretty excited.
Cool! Take her up the main stairway behind home plate so she can experience the full visual effect for her first time there...

Demand To Be Down Slightly?
With the Cubs’ disappointing 2009 season, I’m thinking the demand for tickets will be down slightly on VWR day. Of course, that doesn’t mean tickets for opening day, the Cardinals, the White Sox, and summer weekend games won’t be in high demand. I’m thinking there may not be as bad a wait in the VWR this season.

I'd think you're right.
I’ll be very interested in seeing the single-game prices. So will Jessica — she can finally take her tinfoil conspiracy hat off.

Do you think a Platinum game Bleacher ticket will be $60.48?

This could be interesting
What is the face value printed on tickets? Single Game tickets vs. Season Tickets.

Every ticket printed...
… over the last several years — and for season tickets for at least the last 15 — has the base value and the ticket tax printed separately. I do not expect this to change.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
True, but
I think Single Game tickets vs. Season Tickets have always been the same, because the Cubs backed into the ticket price – fan pays $60 minus tax equals what the Cubs get.
But they flipped that around this year for season tickets. The started with what the Cubs get added the tax and got to an un-rounded number.

So with the shaft fees it'll be in the $68 range, eh?
Not too much more than the approx $66 last season…
Just win the next game...!
I tried to get the ACTUAL price for my tickets and had no luck
Here is what I wrote to my ticket rep…
I am trying to figure out the total cost per ticket for my season package. My account # is ****.
I would like to know the total cost of one ticket four each of the four levels (Platinum, Gold, etc)
Thanks very much for your time.
All I got back was my original bill. So I guess I will have to wait until I can hold the tickets in my hand.
There are those who dedicate themselves to a sense of honor, a life of courage, and a commitment to something greater than themselves. The Few. The Proud.
It comes with a chart , you just have to do the math
I am in 209 as well. Bronze are $14, Silver $25, Gold $32 and Plantininum $42, THEN add 12% to each price. Silver for instance should be $28 but the others will involve numbers with odd change.
Al thinks this is no problem. I think it is way to make you think tickets are less and still am waiting to see how the prices are presented on line and at the box office.

I was shocked to get six tickets to opening day last year after waiting in the VWR for over 2 hours.
I thought they’d be long gone or at best, only singles.
So I think demand WAS down then due to the economy and may be down even more this year.
Now only 12,859 on the "Cubs Season Tickets Waiting List"...
I don't know if it has anything to do with the 2009 season outcome though.
I can tell you that, for the first time in seven years, I won’t clog the system with my request. Money’s tight and I’ll get tickets to games I want to attend later, if I’m able to afford them. I’ve heard a few people say the same, FWIW.
Based on that...
… I would think it will, in fact, be a lot easier to get through.

This is likely to be the route I take too
but I wont say no for sure because I’ll probably still be online looking.

Is it weird that the idea of getting my wrist band has me EXTREMELY excited?

Yes, you need professional help.
The only cure is to watch the Chicago Cubs, a professional baseball team, for all 162 regular season games.
I don’t advise watching any postseason games; those have lead to much worsening of symptoms in the past due to the voice of Dick Stockton.
Instead, listed to Pat and Ron, as Ron will do all the suffering (if there is any and knowing Ronnie, there tends to almost always be some suffering, win or lose) for you.

Or Joe Buck and Tim McCarver.
Or Jon Miller and Joe Morgan.
Who cares if he's a Cubs fan? This is a football forum! He is a PACKER fan as well. So, from now until March, I’m sure he’ll dedicate a lot of his time here. In late March, then we can be enemies during the baseball season. Besides, the Cubs have perhaps the most loyal baseball fanbase in the country. You have to respect that.

Ohhhhh the VWR
I have spent many years wasting my time after school waiting. I even took last year off to try to get Opening Day or the Sox games, but 3 hours and I didn’t even get to buy any. I finally got some when I got home.
I’m doing again this year too….how pathetic am I?!

I’m going to try to get tickets online to Philadelphia at Chicago Cubs on July 17, and St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs on July 23.
Let us know how things go!

We liked PNC the best
of the eastern ballparks we visited when we lived in Pennsylvania. Even better than Camden Yards. A Pittsburgh trip is highly recommended. Always a lot of Cub fans at those games.

The phone works too!
The past few years I’ve set up several computers at work, each running a couple of browsers waiting to bust through the VWR. While keeping an eye on the monitors, I continuously hit re-dial on the phone. I’ve been able to buy more tickets by phone, earlier in the day than I’ve been able to buy on-line. Sometimes the old ways are still viable.
Ya gotta love a team with a shortstop named TheRiot ...
Bleacher tickets for big games will be HARDER to get.
The Cubs are selling 500 additional seats and heavily promoting the “Marquee Club” which lets you buy tickets early for a hefty fee, and I suspect a lot of people will use that for bleacher tickets. I think the Cubs have been very aggressive and getting people to pay to buy the tickets early. While overall demand will be down, tickets for hot games will be harder to get in my opinion.

The Cubs MAY sell 500 extra season tickets.
Remains to be seen how many they will actually sell at $4,000 a crack.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
I think its their way to take a piece of the secondary ticket market indirectly
the hefty fee is essentially a markup someone would realize if they bought on the secondary markup. But instead of the original purchaser getting the money in return as a broker / scalper would, the Cubs get it, and sooner.
Just win the next game...!

Single game ticket prices posted
The Cubs web site has posted the prices for single game tickets. At least for my upper-deck infield box season tickets, the price is exactly the same as the single game price. All tickets are whole dollar amounts, but without the 12% tax included. So the box office people will need to handle coins. I doubt if this is a big problem since I’d guess over 90% of people use a credit card to buy tickets and don’t use cash.
Unless they make box-office prices with cash different.
Which they could.

Only home games?
Is this only for games at Wrigley? I don’t have the funds to make a trip up from Oklahoma City this year and am planning to make my only Cubs sighting this year in Texas. Do I need to worry about getting in the Cubs VWR, or can I hold out for the much less populated (hopefully!) Rangers VWR on March 7?

Scratch March 7, that was last years date.

This is only for Cubs home games.
For road games, you’ll have to check the other team’s site. As of now I don’t see an on-sale date on the Rangers website, but I’m sure they’ll post one soon.

Thanks, Al. I called the Rangers box office today and their single game tickets go on sale March 6

It still bugs me....
that the Cubs didn’t post their ticket prices WITH the 12% amusement tax. So now we have to add the individual price + the 12 % amusement tax + the service charges on tickets.com? you are going to basically be adding at least $20 bucks to your order if you want to get 2 tickets. It’s a little ridiculous.
One more thing...
I’m new to the board, and it’s great to finally be a member. I’ve been reading for a little over a year now and it’s a great blog. Well done, Al, and happy anniversary, too!
