Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

What kinds of things do the Cubs Equipment Staff pack up and truck down to Mesa for Spring Training? Take a look by clicking on the link. (Apparently, there isn't a high demand for waffles...)

How many hats does each player need?

I liked the "hat stretcher" myself...

Is that to take injured caps off the field for medical treatment?

Nahhh….more like medieval torture devices. “Vee haff vays oof makink you talk, you know…”

Now only 12,859 on the "Cubs Season Tickets Waiting List"...

I'm puzzled about the jerseys.

They’re taking 295 jerseys (40 blues, 40 grays, 130 whites, 85 spring/bp)

Why take the blue and gray jerseys? I don’t remember the Cubs wearing anything but the home whies when at home and the spring bp jerseys on the road. Even in Vegas they wear the spring bp jerseys.

Hey, it's a new century!

They may wind up wearing the grays...

… for the games at Chase Field.

Or, they may just be packing everything up so they can have the stuff with them when they go to Atlanta for Opening Day.

They did one year when they had a St. Patricks day game...

… and wore green caps. But otherwise, I don’t think so.

450 Jock Straps,

but only 36 cups. Feel sorry for the rookies left without one.

Skip the waffle maker

Stop by the wonderful Original Pancake House. Right next to the Motel6 in Scottsdale. Great waffles and pancakes.

The Breakfast Club

up the road a little bit on Scottsdale Road from Camelback is where ballplayers seem to like to eat. It is more upscale than the Pancake House. One time I saw Eric Byrnes and Conor Jackson eating breakfast there.

Nomar Garciaparra...

… was spotted in a Paradise Bakery in Scottsdale in 2005, when he was in ST with the Cubs.
