Cubs Equipment On Its Way To Arizona
It's a miserable, snowy day today in Chicago. But this colorful truck is now on its way to Mesa, Arizona, with the Cubs' jerseys, caps and other equipment, awaiting the arrival of pitchers and catchers in only nine days.

Oh, and today is the fifth anniversary of this site. Truth be told, the date had slipped my mind. More discussion at the link in this paragraph.

Awesome sight.
The only thing that would make that picture better is if the truck had backed up over and crushed those Tribune newspaper stands.

Only two of those stands are Trib stands...
… the white one is a Tribune box, the red one for the Trib-owned RedEye.
The blue one is owned by the Sun-Times.

maybe I could pack myself in with some caps, and when we got to arizona, I could be the water boy…

Maybe SWL could do that for me

You know,
I just read about somone that tried to stowaway on the wheel compatment of an airplane. Bad idea, the person didn’t make it, they found their body when they were inspecting the plane after it landed in Japan.

Cubs vehicles
First, congrats on the anniversary. Secondly, do U know when the players drop off vehicles to bring down to Mesa, or if they even do that?
by southside cubbie fan on Feb 9, 2010 12:50 PM CST reply actions
There was a line of cars behind this truck...
… that looked like player vehicles (a couple of Escalades, BMWs, and other luxury cars). I’m guessing those are player cars being driven down there.

Do the players just rent apartments for 45 days?
Or does the team put something together?
"I always tell the truth -- Even when I lie" -- Tony Montana
Some of the players live there year-round.
Many of them rent condos for the period — probably for two months, February and March.

To Al:
Sincere congrats on your anniversary. Your dedication and commitment continues to amaze.
About the photo: Just from a personal perspective, it’s things like this that are my favorite thing about BCB. Where else are you going to see this?
New comer
Al,
I just found this website about two months ago. Before that, I was desperately looking for some kind of Cubs message board or blog that had activity. Your website delivers above and beyond I could have ever imagined. Thanks for all that you do and please keep up the great work.
Once again Happy 5th Anniversary!
Thanks for all the work you do. Really enjoy your recaps, news articles, history stories(your detective work is amazing), etc. etc. It’s been fun even in the off season. Thanks, again Al.

It really is an incredible site Al
I’ve been coming around here for close to two years and although I do not comment or post much, I really appreciate the hard work and dedication you put into bleedcubbieblue. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for your work Al
I’ll leave it to the ladies to call you “amazing”.

Congrats on 5 years Al. This is hands down the best sports site out there. Thank you for your tireless efforts.

To repeat what I said in the fanpost...
… thanks to all for your kind words, and for being here. This wouldn’t be the great place it is without all of you and your contributions.

The biggest change I've seen in 5 years here at BCB is the baseball intellect
i THINK THE CUBS NEED TO LOOK INTO A TRADE WITH THE BLUE JAYS FOR ADAM LIND. HE IS A GREAT HITTER HE CAN PLAY THE OUTFIELD AND TAKE MILTONS SPOT? WOULD BE A GREAT TRADE. LIND IS TYPICALLY USED AS A DH IN TORONTO BUT HE COULD BE A BACKUP FOR D LEE AND HE IS A LEFT HANDED BAT THAT DONT STRIKE OUT VERY OFTEN. WOULD MAKE A GREAT 2 HITTER. MAYBE TRADE FUKUDOME AND START HOFFPUIR EVERYDAY? TOO GOOD LEFT HANDED BATS AND ONE IDIOT IN BRADLEY GONE. ALSO A LOT CHEAPER IN THE LONG RUN
Its funny, you spend most of your life gripping a baseball. And in the end, its almost always the other way around.
Really though,
Happy Birthday Al, this is your BBQ, and it still tastes good.

Okay I admit I was just joking
I would never say this or write something like this to my wife (even if it were maybe just a little bit true). The anniversary part was true but I was kidding about the rest. So I slept comfortably in my bed last night and not on the couch. But I have to admit I was dreaming about BCB while I was sleeping with my wife.

Happy Anniversary!
Wow, five years! WTG.
And how ironic is it that the Cubs are sending their equipment down to Mesa on a day we’re having a quasi snowstorm!
Spring Training can’t get here soon enough — I’m ready for Mesa now!

Hey, snow is good luck for the Cubs!
The last time it snowed on opening day was 2003. That is the ONLY time the Cubs have won a playoff series in, I won’t even say long!

OK, I hate snow.
But if that can help the Cubs win a playoff series, let it snow on Opening Day again.

Chicago Cubs baseball is on the air...

Who cares if he's a Cubs fan? This is a football forum! He is a PACKER fan as well. So, from now until March, I’m sure he’ll dedicate a lot of his time here. In late March, then we can be enemies during the baseball season. Besides, the Cubs have perhaps the most loyal baseball fanbase in the country. You have to respect that.

The spring training cap is being changed.
But that’s a change for all teams, not just the Cubs. Otherwise, I don’t think there are any changes.

Cubs favorite in NL Central?
Is my simulator broke, or does it just hate the Cardinals? I am running the entire 2010 schedule through my simulator, with each game being played 10,000 times. I am currently right around the All-Star break in July. The Cubs are playing just under .550 ball, but it is currently good enough to be at the top of the NL Central. The Cardinals are in 2nd place, slightly above .500. The entire standings up to this point can be viewed in the link. The Cardinals and Mets tanking a little bit are the biggest surprises/outliers to me.
vr, Xei
I would love to know a bit more about the software and which data is being used.
It would also be interesting to know what the extremes and the distribution curves look like.
At any rate, if your simulation results end up fairly close to reality, and I think the chances are not poor that they are, then I wouldn’t be sad at all.
