Soooo...what's the deal here?
Is this a sort of “thanks for the memories” spring training invite? I know Jacque was fairly popular when he played in Minnesota. (I believe he even threw out the first pitch at the Twins-Tigers “play-in” game this past season. How the hell do I remember that?) Or maybe the Twins are thinking of transitioning him into an organizational role of some sort?
Might be the latter.
Hope they aren’t considering him for “outfield throws coach”.

Idunno, but it's not funny or sentimental or nothing.
As a Twins regular follower, I hate this invitation, even if it is for giving him a last hurrah on Opening Day.
Is this a statement on...
the talent levels in baseball (or lack thereof) that they have to bring back guys who are DONE?
Maybe we could bring Ryno and Sosa back!
While we are at it, why not Ernie! (sarcasam)
If you think you've seen it all...just wait!
Here's official word:
“He’s looking to continue his career,” said Twins GM Bill Smith. “He’s been a good player. He’s one of the reasons this team became competitive earlier in the decade. We’re glad to have him back in our organization.”
From MPLS Star-Tribune.
I guess Minnesota fans are too distracted with the shiny new stadium and the Mauer hoopla to care too much about this.
He will have a tough
time, with Kubal, Cuddyer, Span, Young in the OF, then Thome at DH.
Good Luck Jacque
Good fit in Minnesota.
Not a good fit in Chicago. A good small-market player. Can’t handle the pressure of a major market. Not good with the media. Basically, Milton Bradley without the attitude and narcissicism. Give Jacque credit, though. He was not a good player in Chicago, but he got a lot of undeserved crap, and for the most part, tried to be the bigger person. Never threw the fans under the bus, although he probably could have at times. I wish him luck, and may he continue his old ways of being a White Sox killer in the AL Central if he ever gets the opportunity.

If Jacque Jones tried to throw the fans under the bus
the fans would have bounced 17 times before they got to the bus.

he had a decent 2nd half on '07
Help to get us to the playoffs. Though 5 HR might not an ideal number for a RF

I read a few months ago
that Jones appeared to be in the best shape of his life and he felt like he could still contribute. I always liked what Jones could bring, too bad he didn’t really bring it to Chicago. I wish him well and hope he does decent.

Cubs fans who bitch about Jacque Jones
are merely a shade removed from the idiots who bash Steve Bartman.
The Cubs offered Jones a 3-year deal for $5 million per year. He accepted the offer. A significant segment of Cubs fans began bashing Jones before he arrived and when he struggled to adjust, the booing reached an obscene degree. At the end of his first season here, 2006, he had 27 home runs and had an above average OPS+, giving him a season that was worth well over the $5 million the Cubs played.
In his second year, he struggled in the first half, but as the season heated up, he had a very good second half, helping the Cubs reach the playoffs.
He did all this while playing in an environment that included racist hate mail from alleged fans and having a fan actually throw a ball at him.
By all accounts, Jones is a well-liked teammate who played hard. And he had to deal with crap from Cub fans before he even set foot in Wrigley Field. To see people still attack the guy for performing pretty much in line with what should have been expected is just sad.

I don't often agree with you.
But Jones did a good job while he was here. His throwing arm was below-average, but otherwise, he did exactly what could have been expected of him.
