Trade Mauer for a closer?
That’s a pretty dumb idea.
They’ll sign him. They HAVE to.

Is that what the article suggests?
Trading the second best player in baseball for a relief pitcher? Wow, that’s all kinds of dumb.
Yes, that's what it suggests, and yes, that's beyond dumb.
Here’s Rob Neyer’s take on that.

Wihtout reading the articles, yes, that is dumb
Trade the face of your franchise to MAYBE win a division this year?

Joe Mauer is to the Twins what Derek Jeter is to the Yankees or George Brett was to the Royals
…or Albert Pujols to the Cardinals.
Suffice to say, Joe Mauer is a 100% guaranteed lock to start and finish his career in a Minnesota uniform.
The Blackhawks and the Stanley Cup in 2010.
Just for the record...
… so it cannot be said that I simply slam BLou for anything he says, here is an instance where he and I are in total agreement.

Don't be so sure about that
Despite his image I don’t think Maur is giving any home town discount and I can think of at least very big spending teams in New York looking for cathers,

It's ridiculous to
think that Mauer will ever leave MN.

same was said about Wood leaving the Cubs
since he was the face of the Cubs for a decade

Very different story...
…. especially when you are talking about an everyday player as opposed to a pitcher, and that player happens to be the 2nd-best player in the game, AND is a native of the area in question.

I thought the big story was he would give a home town discount
and the union is in a tiff as that’s going to screw up how much everyone else gets paid.

I've read Souhan for years, and I think MN Exile has too.
He’s not a crackpot or bad at grammar like some of our local reporters. He’s actually not bad. But what he’s saying here is just silly. Other than all the speculation, who has the talent—plus the payroll room—to trade for Mauer? Oh well. Carry on, nothing to see here.
You mean Sid?
(What a waste of human DNA he is!)
The Twins would be insane to do this, if you ask me.
