A Reminder That Baseball Is Very Human
Giants minor-leaguer Garrett Broshius is retiring, without ever having made the major leagues. He left a thank-you note on his blog. Well worth reading.

"What else 'ya got?"
Sorry for that header, but after reading Broshius’ very eloquent “goodbye”, all I could think of is how something like this measures against recent verbal and written experience with a former Cubs right fielder.
I hope Broshius considers a career in sports reporting. He’d likely be very good at it.
"Look, what do you want me to do?"
wow, what do you do when you're 28 and baseball is all you know...

Is that...

i didn't read the whole thing....too dang long
i do like the idea behind the thank you. i especially liked the part about the host family that most of us never think about for minor leaguers. i wish him well in the rest of his life.

Al, thanks
for reminding us that baseball is played by real people, not robots.
Classy
I’m sure he’ll have a great life outside of the game.
But it’s a reminder that every year teams sign about 40-50 players between the draft and international signings and of those, only 2 or 3 usually make the majors. And you’re lucky if you get one that sticks.
I worked with this guy...
when we were teenagers. Always seemed like a really good guy. It’s unfortunate that his career didn’t take him higher.
Based upon what I saw in his note,
He likely has a career as a baseball reporter ahead of him.
But I agree with you, I wish he could have made it too.
Who cares if he's a Cubs fan? This is a football forum! He is a PACKER fan as well. So, from now until March, I’m sure he’ll dedicate a lot of his time here. In late March, then we can be enemies during the baseball season. Besides, the Cubs have perhaps the most loyal baseball fanbase in the country. You have to respect that.
Go Pack!

Looks like he’s already done work for the Sporting News and Baseball America. I think he has a bright future in front of him.
