Spring Training Funding Bill Amendment
AZ state Rep. John McComish is offering an amendment to the proposed bill to help fund the Cubs new complex. The rental car tax would be eliminated, and the ticket surcharge would be available to all teams, in addition to helping retire debt for Pima County after it lost all its ST teams.

Interesting
Based on public statements over the last few weeks, I got the impression the ticket surcharge was going to go away and revenues would be raised via other taxes.
Apparently the rental car industry lobby has more pull than the Cactus League lobby.

I like it
because it helps retire the debt on TEP and Hi Corbett Field. They are trying to get Japanese teams to train here as well as Universities in bad weather states to have baseball tournaments but I don’t think either idea will generate much money.

You don't think travelers would flock to the southwest
for a college baseball tourney between Indiana, Seton Hall, Wyoming, and the Penn Quakers? Say it ain’t so. Surely ESPN would commit time to a Nippon Ham Fighters game.
But I do prefer Plan B. Especially if Bud still hates it.

Bravo to the AZ Legislature!!!
I can already hear the whining of rival Cactus League teams & fans and I couldn’t care less. This bill rightfully distributes the shared burden of retaining the Cubs upon those who directly benefit from a strong Cactus League. It should also undercut the slimey, self-serving leadership of the opposition who collectively crapped on Pima County. I can’t wait to hear their response, it should be very nuanced.
Just when I thought all policticans were incompetent…
