I realize this probably isn't the place for this, but my alma mater shut up a bunch of cocky KU fans today. I called this from the beginning as seen in the link above.

I am a cocky KU grad and KU fan

We had this one coming.

KU really shouldn't feel bad.

UNI is a much better team than a #9 seed. Strong inside game and they can all shoot the lights out. ESPN’s love for Duke screwed KU.

I don't feel bad

I saw the way that they played against Lehigh and I knew that they were not focused enough to do this. I will say that UNI should have been a 5 or 6, but National Champs beat 5s and 6s too.

Well you're a bigger fan than the ones I was at the bar with.

The fact is KU got put in an impossible region and as the #1 seed, that was BS.

I have seen better KU teams throughout the year than this overrated bunch

Hinrich’s team in 2003 team was powerful. When I was there, it was Paul Pierce and Raef LaFrentz. They won nothing and would have destroyed this KU team. This year’s team was way over rated. I am rooting for UNI. My bracket is in the trash and my alma mater is home crying. Why not UNI

cheese?

Fact of the matter is KU should have won…they were #1 in the nation.

I saw you in that coffee shop, breaking the fifth commandment. Congress passes these things for a reason, Lois.

I am pleased...

to see KU gone from the tourney. And they certainly did not deserve to win this game.

by Kansas25 on Mar 20, 2010 11:09 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed.

Crazy thing is, UNI has yet to play it’s best ball.

Who are those two big lumbering tanks UNI put out there?

They definitely looked corn-fed. Well corn-fed… ;-)

Northern Iowa vs St. Mary’s in the final – book it!!!

Funny you ask.

Cubs fans will probably be interested in this. Egelseder (7 footer) is the cousin of Dustin Egleseder, who was the winner of the original TMOTTBG fan contest. RIP Dustin.

PS I had St. Marys winning today too. Honestly.

yep, that's the guy

I checked their roster and some photos and Egleseder is one of the tanks that caught my eye. Who’s the other big guy with the all-over facial hair? Don’t think it’s either of the Koch brothers.

Thanks.

I just went through all their pics from “photo day” and couldn’t find anyone who looked like Hacksaw Jim Duggan’s kid brother… ;-)

btw here’s O’Rear’s official pic

Excellent game by UNI

Well coached squad. I gotta think Jacobson is going to get some offers within the next year or two.

KU made a mistake in not pressing earlier. Granted, Self’s reasoning made some sense – they were in the bonus very early.

That said, this KU team seemed good enough to win, not a dominant squad.

Anyhow, my alma mater (Cornell) is still around. Here’s hoping.

That guard with the hard to pronounce name...

has some huge balls to take (and make) that 3 with 38 seconds left and only up by one.

Quite the tourney this year.

He had what has to be the most -

“What the hell are you doing?, there’s no one from UNI underneath the basket to rebound this bomb, you had better make this you dumb hick, holy s***, IT WENT IN!!!!” I don’t believe it! -

YEAH FARMBOYS.

My parents met while at school at UNI. I promised my dad i’d root for his basketball team this year as long as he got behind Iowa Football at the Orange Bowl. Turned out to be a fun trade for both of us, and got me out of caring about Iowa’s embarrassing basketball program.

The only thing that made the victory sweeter… seeing Alford’s team lose as well.

MVC fan here

nice to see continued strong showings. It’s a much tougher league than its given credit for.

Me too.....couldnt agree more.

Every year the MVC puts up a strong showing. The irony is that UNI should have had a much higher seed and if they did they wouldnt have played KU yesterday.

by JB 23 on Mar 21, 2010 10:53 AM CDT up reply actions

Meh...

not all that underrated this year. Obviously top-heavy, as UNI has been a strong team all year, but this was certainly a down year in the MVC. I follow WSU, and they’re still looking to get things turned around post-Turgeon.

Shockers seem to be on the right track

and beating UNI is a nice feather in the cap. I say typically the top four teams in The Valley can play with just about anyone and to me that is a strong conference and makes for good basketball. Also, it makes for a competitive and interesting league year after year. The top teams in the MVC seem to cycle up and down which is nice for the fans. (except maybe the Aces).. And in the interest of full disclosure I follow the Salukis and trust me..it hurts.

What was most impressive to me - besides taking that balls of thunder trey late in the game...

…was the fact that UNI choked several times at the end of the game and still held it together to win.

For as well-coached team as I’ve heard them to be, they sure didn’t know how to break a press. They made several bad passes and crucial turnovers and just couldn’t cleanly bring the ball up the court. And most times when you see the underdog in this position – decent lead late in the game against a a heavy favorite – after the first mistake or two, they tend to fold and the heavy favorite will do the necessary things to win by a point or two. Then they go “whew” and move on to steamroll the rest of the games.

Not this time. Yes, UNI turned it over several times giving KU more than one window of opportunity to reclaim control. But each time it seemed like KU had that “run along, you’ve had your fun, now it’s time for the big boys to play” attitude, UNI said “sez who” and made foul shots, turnaround jumpers, or yes – a balls of thunder trey….

“Yeah Farmboys!” indeed.

I don't know how that UNI kid walks around

since he’s got two watermelons hanging from between his legs.

Bill Self has two sunflower seeds.

I had two brackets. One with Kansas winning it all and one with Kansas losing to Kentucky in the championship game. I bought the hype.

And I don’t care. I was cheering like a madman for UNI

We were cheering big time for UNI

my daughter goes there! Miserable basketball from the other Iowa universities so UNI has everyone’s attention in this state. Good job and let’s win again.

This is only the beginning....Lou Pinella end of '07 season and Chicago Transit Authority (the band when they were really good).

We'll do our best. Time to spend a few days trying to get healthy.

And an arch support for Chris Allen, a new foot for Kalin Lucas and a tooth cap for Raymar… geeze…
