"My thoughts are I want to help this team any way I can," Colvin said. "If it's coming off the bench and getting a hit there or starting periodically throughout the week, that's great."

Complete article behind the link. I'm rooting for this kid.

I was wondering today.

If I was colvin, would I rather be at the show or playing everyday and improving my skills. Obviously head and heart would be in battle.

I think I can answer that for almost every player in the history of the game

and say “at the show”

I'm also rooting for him...

But you have to think limited ABs and playing time could be hindering his development. Not bashing Dome or Sori, but I would like to see what this kid could do with a starting job.

Someday we'll go all the way...

I don't get the move

Lou said earlier he needs regular AB’s. How’s he going to get them? I still dont’ know why Nady isn’t starting the season on the DL? In that instance I could see Colvin making the team, along with Fuld. Lou will probably lobby to keep Millar, and give him outfield AB’s ahead of Colvin.
The more I read about Nady’s inability to throw with any strength the more worried I get.

Right.

If he needs regular AB’s, he needs to get them in Iowa.

We've started the puzzling roster management early this year

and that’s a bad sign

Been thinking about this

Given that Fukudome seems to wear down, I could see where pinch-hitting, resting Dome here and there, and subbing generally in the OF could potentially give Colvin enough playing time. And the “need ABs” business always has to factor in AAA pitching — he might learn more in 150 ABs against MLB than AAA guys.

Ultimately,. Lou knows hitting, and whether Colvin would benefit more from MLB pitching at this stage. Also, he can bring Colvin up for awhile, and send him down if he is either overmatched, or losing it from too much bench time. And if Colvin continues to kill the ball, so much the better.

It be one thing if Dome

ripped the ball his first two years here. Colvin gives the Cubs a solid stick off the bench. If Dome struggles give Colvin couple starts a week. If he earns it, he earns it. Go north young man.

Gotta agree with Grock

Lets face it , the Cubs have too long and too overpaid contracts with Fuku and Soriano , If Colvin can out play either one of them ,play Colvin and pay Fuku or Soriano to sit on the bench .. Cubs need a solid bat in the lineup and the way Colvin is hitting keep the hot bat in the lineup .. I know it’s expensive with Sorry or Fukudome on the bench , but lets have the best player in the lineup

He deserves to start the season

There is no doubt for me that Colvin has earned a spot on the opening day roster. He deserves to be introduced on Opening Day in Wrigley, be in the team photo, etc.

One thing that is often forgotten at this time of year is that guys move between Wrigley and AAA. If he isn’t getting regular enough at bats, send him back to Iowa.

Also, looking at Fuld, I would say that Sam is in more need of regular ABs. A guy who has scuffled somewhat in Spring Training may not be the best option to get limited ABs on the Cubs’ bench.

He'll get a better shot

When Fukudome’s contract is over.
