Amazing that the Mccaskeys authorized that!!
I figured they’d just keep milking their golden cow till Virginia passed away and then sell the team.

OT: Random question after noticing the "Evony" ad on the game channel..
Do you think that the percentage of dudes on that site is closer to 95% or more like 99%?
Those ads are all over the Internets
Soooo glad Chrome has an AdBlock plugin now – I haven’t had to (unintentionally) look at porny girls in Ren-Faire garb for a couple of months now.

So the Sun-Times tells me that Marlon Byrd..
has been in camp for a week, and told *two of our major-league pitchers that they are tipping pitches?
Does that say more about our new Centerfielder, or our Pitching Coach?
by The Deputy Mayor of Rush Street on Mar 5, 2010 2:41 PM CST reply actions
or both...
…did he know this last year? Did the whole AL know it?
"Look, what do you want me to do?"
Yeah, I read about how he told Marmol how he was tipping pitches

Doesn't seem to help batters, given his BAA..
I was hoping Spellcheck was one of them.
by DisCUBbobulated on Mar 5, 2010 2:44 PM CST up reply actions
but maybe they laid off anytime he pitched something
that is known to be outside of the strike zone more often than not – which could explain the higher walk totals.
Pitching coaches arent looking at much as tipping pitches
as they are the mechanics of the pitcher. For better or worse, that’s kind of the case.
Is this sarcasm?
A pitcher tipping his pitches is EXACTLY what I would expect a pitching coach to pick up on. Aren’t pitches usually tipped by some inconsistency in the mechanics of a pitcher’s delivery? I don’t think it’s like poker where they’ll start shaking or smoking a cigarette a different way.
Follow me on Twitter: @brandonrifkin
maybe Marmol
is throwing his off-speed pitches with his other hand. I think a batter would probably notice that.
Forget all that other stuff. I gotta believe.
by drewishdrewid on Mar 5, 2010 2:55 PM CST up reply actions
From an SI article...
“Former big league pitcher Burt Hooton, now the Astros’ pitching coach, doesn’t pay much attention to whether his guys are tipping pitches. When he played, he would wriggle his hand around in his glove just to keep the hitters guessing which grip he was using. And if he felt like a hitter was sitting on a pitch he shouldn’t know anything about, he’d knock the batter off the plate with something high and hard.
That’s not to say that Hooton won’t help one of his pitchers once someone points out a potential problem."
So no, not sarcasm.
I certainly hope this is the exception, not the rule.
It makes literally no sense to me.
Follow me on Twitter: @brandonrifkin
A bit more info
“The pitching coaches are looking more at how our mechanics are, not [whether a] leg kick or hand break or arm pattern is giving away anything when we’re throwing,” Diamond said. “The hitters are looking for that stuff. It’s good to get that feedback, especially from teammates.”
"Who ever heard of the Cubs losing a game they had to have?" -Frank Chance
"If [Ruth] had [called his shot], I would have knocked him down with the next pitch." -Charlie Root
Thanks for the info.
Maybe I’m just stubborn, but I still think that a pitcher tipping his pitches is something a pitching coach (someone who gets paid to make pitchers better) should a) notice, and b) correct.
Follow me on Twitter: @brandonrifkin
I have no special knowledge where I can dispute that's the way it works in MLB..
but it sounds something like a cook that knows to take two pounds, add a cup, a dash, two tablespoons, and bake 40 minutes at 425°.

Who cares if he's a Cubs fan? This is a football forum! He is a PACKER fan as well. So, from now until March, I’m sure he’ll dedicate a lot of his time here. In late March, then we can be enemies during the baseball season. Besides, the Cubs have perhaps the most loyal baseball fanbase in the country. You have to respect that.
