Wrigley Walkabout - 03/05/10
Took advantage of the nice weather in Chicago yesterday to do another Wrigley Walkabout - any excuse to get a Big Gulp... Had the camera with me this time so I was able to take some pictures.
Click here to see the entire album (21 photos) but I think I can embed a slideshow, so we'll try that after the jump.
Hey, whaddya know - I think it worked!
As you might have guessed with the recent stretch of good weather, work continues at fevrish pace outside of Wrigley - I imagine inside as well. As we get closer to the home opener, I'm sure I'll do another walkaround or two - if I get some good shots, I'll post them as well. But now I've got some errands to run, ending with a stop at my favorite 7-Eleven for some liquid refreshment. And then it's home to the couch and Len & Bob, watching the Cubs on WGN!

Great Pics!
I can’t wait for summer. It’s 60 here in Dallas and it makes me want to be drinking an Old Style at Wrigley today…even though I know it’s freezing there.

actually, it's pushing the high 40's and sunny up here in Chicago.
So nice, I broke out the short pants for walking around doing my errands. Supposed to get crappy and rainy tomorrow though – perfect for watching the Blackhawks/RedWings on NBC then Cubs/Sox on WGN, take a break for food then back to the couch for the Oscars…

Hopefully the Cubs result will be better Sunday.
Today? Not so much. Ugh.
"Look, what do you want me to do?"
Spring is peeking out here too...
Ok not as much as there but it’s almost 40…
- Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
- Germans?
- Forget it, he's rolling.
Thanks for the pix and tour, ballhawk.
About that “roof” on the Sports Corner? I don’t think it’s getting one. I think they are going to use that as an outdoor roof patio.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
I had heard that as well
but I was thinking the patio would be on top of the roof of the third floor, instead of essentially leaving the third floor open. If the latter, i.e. leave it as it is now, just seems kind of odd that the walls would be so high around it – you’d think they’d want it to be more open.
Then again, considering the amount of alcohol to be consumed, maybe not…
Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."
Well, exactly.
This way people can have the open-air patio and Sports Corner wouldn’t be calling ambulances every five minutes.

Guess people falling off the roof
would be bad for business.
Hey, it's a new century!

bad for repeat business
anyway.
Forget all that other stuff. I gotta believe.

Hope you didn't miss anything by walking around.
Didn’t think you’d leave your spot, especially so close to opening day.

awesome pictures
it’s nice to see that Wrigley is finally getting a long-needed face lift
This is the year...
Nice work, Ballhawk.
Some men learn through what they read. Some men learn through what they're told. Some men have to piss on the railroad tracks. And some men keep on pissin'.
God I wish I lived in Chicago
the fact that you can just wander on by Wrigley anytime you want makes me VERY, VERY jealous
I guess I'm just a worrier, that's why my friends call me whiskers
It is kinda sweet, isn't it...
I’ve been here 20 years now. Rented all over the North side for the first 10 years – got to experience a lot of the different neighborhoods, including a summer in one of the rooftop buildings (not as cool as you might think). But when it came time to buy something, I knew it had to be in close proximity to Wrigley.
The bloom has worn off a bit (I’m still the same age, but dammit, those drunken kids are sure getting younger…) but I still very much appreciate being able to do just as you described – wander on by Wrigley anytime. In some ways, it’s more interesting to do these “walkabouts” in the offseason – especially in the dead of winter. Something about the quiet and the solitude of that grand old dame gets to me every time.

Cool
I have been looking for that perfect retirement spot, where I can sit on the porch and shoo kids off of my lawn. I’ve got to talk to The Wife about this…

Very cool - thanks.
And I even learned something from this – I didn’t realize we could post slideshows either.
I kinda lucked into that feature
Obviously Picasa and SBN know how to play well together. Not sure about other picture hosting sites.
Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."
I assume Picasa has some sort of embed code that you used?
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
yep
They have a “Link to this album” feature that gives you the choice of a using just a plain URL, embed the actual image on the site, or a slideshow option that creates the embed code to run the slideshow. I just copied that into the video option in the inserts section.

Have they repaired all of the lights in the marquee?
I haven’t been by Wrigley in a week or two, but I seem to remember some of the letters were out. At the local Walgreen’s I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, but the marquee at Wrigley is a bit more aesthetically important.

Great post! Rec'd!
Who cares if he's a Cubs fan? This is a football forum! He is a PACKER fan as well. So, from now until March, I’m sure he’ll dedicate a lot of his time here. In late March, then we can be enemies during the baseball season. Besides, the Cubs have perhaps the most loyal baseball fanbase in the country. You have to respect that.
Go Pack!
