Blanco out for two weeks/ Nady a few more days?
Well "good" news for Millar , Tracy & Fontenot. Blanco has a sprain and will be out for two weeks. This is bitch for judging a guy out of options. Nady is also "3 or 4 days" away from seeing action. Good for Fuld & Colvin I suppose.

Meh...We'll see how he is come the end of Spring Training
we could just put him on the DL if worst comes to worst
This is the year...
At least this year, the Cubs have some other backup options.
Unlike last year, when the only IF backup option was “Corey Koskie”. That didn’t work out so well.

That'd be OK with me.
I think Barney could become a decent major league utility infielder.

I'm also interested in DB getting some tries at third
Not sure if he’s been tried there or at 2b, but in Spring, why not?
Nice,
he’s a solid backup infield option who can play short and second and probably can hit a little better than Blanco. We’ll see if he’s ready to take advantage of a nice opportunity.

Godd news for few guy,
but bad news for the team.
Every player should be accorded the privilege of at least one season with the Chicago Cubs. That's baseball as it should be played - in God's own sunshine. And that's really living."
It might not be all bad
I love Blanco and want him on the bench but I fear that Lou would be inclined to take Millar or Tracy over him. I believe it is Blanco’s choice to take other offers if the Cubs don’t put him on the 25 man roster. This might buy the Cubs & Lou a little time re Blanco. Blanco is probably more willing to go to Iowa if an injury puts him a bit behind schedule. Best light I can put on it and I really want him on the bench.

if Blanco is hurt, then he goes on the DL. But he is out of options for minors
if when healthy, the Cubs want to send him to Iowa, they must be careful. They would need to put him on waivers. Any team could claim him, but that team would have to put him on their 25 man roster. If nobody claims him (slips through waivers), then the Cubs can send him down.
utility infielders come a dime a dozen, so he is easily replaced.

not for an injury rehab stint
Sunday Feb 28 at 7 PM CST free webcast of the live taping of The Austin Variety Show www.austinvarietyshow.com/
injury rehab is part of being on the DL
there is nothing wrong with doing it that way.

I'm not sure there will be playing time for Blanco in Iowa.
It depends on where Castro lands. If Castro is in AA, Barney should have SS at AAA. If Castro is in AAA, Barney should have 2B in Iowa. If Castro goes north, there’s no reason for Blanco to wait around with the Cubs. Plus, is Tony Thomas going to Iowa?

Thomas needs to get showcased
and traded. You’ve already displayed he is desparation option 4. We’ll have guys in Tennessee/Daytona that will be better than TT.Lee and Watkins will be in Peoria. I hope Thomas is involved in our next trade.
What about Nady? When is going to play?
Already sounding like another gamble that didn’t pay off for a two-time Tommy John surgery victim. With Guzman done, who is the setup man? This ain’t looking good.

There are four weeks till Opening Day.
If Nady can’t play till a week from now and is ready then, so what?

Then we'll have nothing to worry about
Right now, we have plenty

Every Cubs fan
should get one of these, jc.
Relax, folks.

Hard to imagine Andres Blanco making the team regardless
Lou Piniella seems set on the following scenario —
1.Xavier Nady (presuming healthy)
2. Koyie Hill
3. Jeff Baker or Mike Fontenot
4. A battle between Chad Tracy and Kevin Millar
5. A battle between Sam Fuld and Blanco
The Blackhawks and the Stanley Cup in 2010.
It depends on whether you think #4 is guaranteed.
I’m not so sure.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
I think #5 should be changed
A battle between Sam Fuld and Tyler Colvin
And I think its between Fontenot and Blanco for that last spot
"Baseball is almost the only orderly thing in a very unorderly world. If you get three strikes, even the best lawyer in the world can't get you off." ~ Bill Veeck
Indeed
Blanco & Fuld are not fighting for a spot. I doubt Colvin is in the mix. Unless Fuld really messes up, I think he is the 5th OF.
Also I don’t think you are counting right BLou. Baker is a lock. The fight is Blanco, Fontenot, Millar & Tracy for two spots.
Fontenot is close to a lock if not traded but he does have an option left.

According to Lou, Fuld is not in any battles
He is on the team
I guess I'm just a worrier, that's why my friends call me whiskers
Right now I'd have to say Lou wants the following bench...
1. Nady (again, assuming he is ready to go by opening day)
2. Hill
3. Baker or Fontenot (or in other words, the loser of the starting 2nd base job)
4. Millar (why, I do not understand)
5. Fuld
If it were up to me Tracy or Blanco makes the club instead of Millar. Colvin? He’s most assurededly ticketed for Iowa.
