This as a result of the 2009 playoff blown calls.

GOOD
Their quality of umpring has gone down sigifnicantly the last few years. It’s about time MLB took action. We forget these men get paid to do a job too and in my opinion many of them have been doing it very poorly.
I’ll even go a step farther, 2007 umps made two horribly blown calls against the Brewers. I still think the Cubs would have won the division but it could have very likely been decided on the final game of the season.
Wait, I'm confused...
These men didn’t actually ump the ’09 playoff games, right? Why not fire the actual umpires that blew the calls?

Because that would make too much sense
And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.
This will be interesting...
… to see played out. I’m not sure if this was the right move or the wrong move. I sure hope it wasn’t for vanity. IMO there are institutional issues and perhaps it was the supervision and way umpires are managed. Who knows.
Are the Umpire Supervisors in the Union?
Or now MLB Management? Because firing an MLB management employee would be a lot easier than firing a Union umpire.

Bingo
Management isn’t in the union. They can be fired without cause. The actual umpires would have a chance to contest their dismissal.

This isn't the solution.
There’s an easy answer. Use replay in a limited way, as we have discussed here, to get the calls right. Replacing managers will accomplish, IMO, exactly nothing.

Exactly
I would also like to see a set, rigid strike zone. No more of this its a strike for a vet but a ball for a rookie nonsense. And I would like to see BAD umpires fired. There should be a penalty for being bad at your job. I wouldn’t let some of these fools ump a pick up wiffle ball game (CB Bucknor I’m looking at you).

You can do wonders...
…with lasers in policing the strike zone, but do you really want to? I don’t. So long as the ump is consistent, I’ll be happy.

Oh, so it's...
… one of those Soriano struggles, Bradley struggles, so you fire Gerald Perry type of things…

That's true too
When you have this many mistakes, then maybe management is at fault for not training these people better.

I was thinking the same thing.

Scapegoats -- Nothing more!
This is pitiful and classless! MLB should expand replay if they really care about getting the calls right!

The only thing worse...
than the umpiring during the 09 post season, was Chip Caray doing play-by-play.
