I would have no problem posting one if I were around and it was time to jump.

And this was a playful request that apparently bothered you enough to resort to some good old name-calling.

I see that the last time I asked whoever was posting the jump link to do this, it was you as well. Not mean to be a personal gripe directed at you, but I do think if you’re going to consistently post the link, it wouldn’t be a burden to keep it in the same window.

I suppose I could post a rival jump link, but is that really necessary?

With Schwa on this, actually.

The purpose of that checkbox is to help direct the conversation on this site.

In a fanpost, if you are linking to a supporting article but hope people continue the conversation in that thread, pop it in a new window or tab.

If its a jump, the hope is to get people to LEAVE that old thread for a new one. Why not just replace that window or tab?

Small deal, but he’s right.

Dum spiro spero... | Follow me on twitter or else: @andrewjstone.

by AndrewJStone on Mar 8, 2010 3:28 PM CST up reply actions

Here's my rationale

Game Threads are not linear – the threaded nature of them means that several conversations can be ongoing at once. To jump people over to a new thread in the same window presumes that they are finished with all of their conversations in the old one. That is simply not always the case.

I think it’s easier to essentially ask someone to close a window when they’re done with it rather than force them to open a new window and then navigate back to the old thread so they can continue a conversation. Especially if the old thread in question is an Overflow thread, which does not post to a prominent position on the BCB homepage.

I don’t claim to be the alpha and omega of proper Jump etiquette, but this seems like the politer option.

by Clutch16 on Mar 8, 2010 3:39 PM CST up reply actions

While this is logical, there's one thing that needs to be mentioned.

You can always right-click on a link and choose to open in a new tab/window. I don’t think there’s an option to open a link in the same/current tab/window.

So if someone were elbow-deep in a conversation, they could right-click on your jump link and open it in a new tab. Everyone else would just click and move on with the flow of the game.

I'm willing to go the democratic route and put it to a vote

I’ll post a FanShot with a poll and link to this conversation – we’ll tally the votes once it drops off the bottom of the main page and whichever option is more popular is the way I’ll go in the future. Deal?

Haha works for me. I guess it's really not that big of an issue.

Again, didn’t mean to bring this all on you. But you seem to be the resident jump-master now, so maybe it’s a good thing.

Truth to tell, I'm interested to see which way it goes

I can see both sides of it, and I know that I can just Ctrl-click a link to pop it up in a new tab. I always assume I’m in the minority when it comes to knowing browser tricks like that, though. Perhaps BCB as a whole is more savvy than I give it credit for – I’m not sure.

I’ll post the FanShot after the game is over.

Additionally, you can click with your scroll wheel on your mouse to open a link in a new tab.

At least in Firefox you can. I won’t pretend to know if it works in IE because you couldn’t pay me to use IE.

No hits is good. They’ve been talking up his improved curve ball, so it sounds like, despite the control issues, they’re not hitting it.

Hello guys!

Inning and score?

Who cares if he's a Cubs fan? This is a football forum! He is a PACKER fan as well. So, from now until March, I’m sure he’ll dedicate a lot of his time here. In late March, then we can be enemies during the baseball season. Besides, the Cubs have perhaps the most loyal baseball fanbase in the country. You have to respect that.

Well I wasn't really serious.

And no, I would NOT prefer Silva. I think one spot is Shark’s to lose, just by virtue of not being a lefty and not being named Carlos Silva. I’m expecting Gorzo will take the 5th spot unless he sh… poops the bed between now and April. I only brought this all up because I feel like Marshall has put himself in the position to be given a starting spot before, just to be sent to the bullpen because of his ‘versatility’.

Have to be a decent prospect...

Solid glove, good pop….don’t see anyone available right now who would be better…..

OT: eths, you play poker?

Understand there was some excitement in Berlin over the weekend. Big poker tournament going on and all of a sudden, guys with guns and machetes bust in and rob the place. Event was being televised so folks at home got to see the “action” live.

Doesn’t sound like anyone was hurt so I guess no one decided to see if they were “bluffing”…

Be advised,

eths is in this thread. He may do that for you before you know it.
