The amazing thing is

the Seattle fans at least on the site, don’t care. They dog the Cub fans and the “F” bombs fly everywhere. To each his own I guess. Have fun Seattle its only April. Its a shame they actually have a decent team, however Bradley will screw that deal up.

by Grockcubs on Apr 11, 2010 5:26 AM CDT reply actions

They act like that...

because he was in Texas when he pulled that stunt. Sooner or later (likely sooner) he’ll do that in Seattle, and you can watch the worm turn. Especially if he keeps hitting like he’s hitting.

Can we stop this now?

This player is not a Cub. This incident was not related to the Cubs. He will play the Cubs in June. We can talk about him then.

Well, if you'd like to impose...

some sort of moratorium on Bradley posts around here, I’ll respect that. However, a major-league player – or any athlete, really – flipping off fans is newsworthy by almost any standard. It’s hard to fault a poster for mentioning this when I’ve personally seen a half-dozen regional and national news outlets running blurbs with it.

by Damen Jackson on Apr 11, 2010 9:31 AM CDT up reply actions

I suppose.

I guess if Bradley had never been a Cub, I’d have simply gone by this. I’m just tired of hearing about him.

I understand...

The problem with that though is that Bradley baths in controversy, so you’ve got to expect that he’s going to do or say something of note at least a few times a season.

Thanks for speaking up Al.

The bitterness over Bradley is just overdone. As you said, he’s not a Cub. Continuing to read about him here is just plain boring.

by cubswin on Apr 11, 2010 9:40 AM CDT up reply actions

I disagree to the extent that

it’s clearly a post about mb – so each and every bcb reader can chose to read about him or not – so those who find it boring or want it to stop can chose to ignore it. He may not be a Cub now but that doesn’t mean that all discussion of him needs to be banished.

Wow.

Al, I appreciate the fact you keep the lid on the profanity here…not that I don’t use it myself from time to time, but to read an entire thread laced with it is tiresome. There are far more creative ways of self expression than that. How tedious.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I glanced over there.

It just makes BCB seem more like a Cubs forum than a frat house. It makes the posters (for the most part) seem so much more intelligent than over at Lookout Landing.

by Bricks and Ivy on Apr 11, 2010 9:55 AM CDT up reply actions

IMHO

I think a few profanities every now and then is OK…but over there it is quite obsessive. I totally agree with you. Ever since the MB trade I’ve been just reading their blog over there, and quite frankly their attitudes really rub me the wrong way. In fact they would probably get off if I told them about their attitudes..I just hope we kick their teams ass later in the year.

by BadDecisions on Apr 11, 2010 10:09 AM CDT up reply actions

One of the blog owners there posted this too:

(Note to fans of other teams that may conveniently choose to drop by: shut up. You didn’t “show us.” This isn’t an incident. It’s practically nothing.)

That was written by what seems to be one of the blog owners over there. Kind of a rude guy IMO. I thought these blogs were to welcome baseball fans? This guy posted that comment before anyone even read his post.

Sorry, not very welcoming to be told to shut up by just reading an article.

by ak123 on Apr 11, 2010 10:09 AM CDT reply actions

So many of the other SB Nation blogs

are run by teenagers, or adults who seem to display the same behavior. I saw one comment on a blog “….So what if we are profane? This is like a sports bar. We can say whatever we want…”

I’d guess the majority of the posters/participants who share that belief don’t have kids. I’d almost guess those on BCB who do drop F-Bombs are not parents.

We have the option to block certain Internet sites from children. TV’s V- Chip can help assert ‘parental control.’ I am not a parent. But I feel for those who are. This is tough. It’s a completely different world from when I grew up. I wasn’t assaulted with what kids are today. Still, I’m not for censorship. But a parent doesn’t want to wrap your child in saran wrap. What to do? You’d think purist sports blogs would be somewhat safe havens.

But what’s wrong with some commen decency when you know kids may want to participate in these blogs? This is not a problem here AT ALL. But at so many of the other sites, the constant profanity gets old. I don’t waste my time with them.

And, ak123, I’ve had the same issues posting at some other blogs as you have. I was even banned at Halo Heaven for asking the blogger to try to keep the profanity to a minimum. I guess I was spoiled by the decency here at BCB. The guy wrote me a personal E-Mail laced with obscenites for my comment. Unbelieveable.

by San Diego Smooth Jazz Man on Apr 11, 2010 11:15 AM CDT up reply actions

It's real simple.

I want to run a non-profane site. I understand the occasional profanity, especially in a game thread.

But if you want to be as profane as some of those sites, go elsewhere. That’s not what BCB is about.

And why did he flip off the fans?

(from a comment on the Dallas Morning News website)

I sat in LF last night and the reason why the fans were giving him such a hard time is because the ball girl that was throwing to him to warm up his arm before innings overthrew him before the 1st inning, and he just stood there with his arm extended in the air and watched it fly into CF. The poor girl had to run and get it while he just stood there. We gave her a loud ovation when she did, and he wouldn’t throw with her the entire rest of the game while acting like a pompous you-know-what. So that’s why he took so much heat last night.

Priceless.

Why is it...

… that an outfielder is having warmup throws with the ball girl? Isn’t it always the case where two of the OF throw to each other, and the other one throws with a bullpen pitcher from his team, whichever OF is closest to the pen? That’s how the Cubs do it, anyway.

i think it has something to do do with the layout of the stadium most likely

when i went to the games in tampa, i saw the left fielder (it wasn’t soriano all the time, i think hoffpaur was there a game) warming up with either a pitcher or one of the pen catchers, but when i went to a series in cincy the same year, soriano warmed up with a ballboy/girl. the main difference in those two stadiums was that in tampa the bullpen was right next to the field without a wall separating the two and in cincy, obviously the pens are behind the outfield wall.

Jim Hendry how could you be so wrong.

by Grockcubs on Apr 11, 2010 1:57 PM CDT up reply actions

A few things

First off, what Mariners fans are saying is EXACTLY what we were saying last year at this time (and when he was signed). That the Cubs needed this type of attitude, a kick in the pants, etc. I am sure that people weren’t thrilled when fans of other teams dropped by to “warn us” all, so why should Mariners fans want to hear it from us?

To further put is in M’s fans positions, had they stopped by here after Carlos Silva’s great start the other night to tell us “don’t get your hopes up, we saw an occasional stellar start, he’s going to end up sucking…” most fans here would have had some pretty choice words for that.

Finally… I have a friend who is a big Giants fan, grew up in SF, etc… Whenever I used to give him crap about Barry Bonds and ask how he could root for such a piece of garbage/steroid user, he usually brushed it off. But ultimately, he said “what am I supposed to do, not root for my team until Bonds is gone”? I realize you can root for your team and not support one player (I never liked Sosa when he was a Cub), but the point was well taken. Its your team, you want them to win, and you’ve got the players that you’ve got.

Mariners fans don’t need us going over there to show them the way. Its their blog and when Dr. Crawdad posts some often times cogent posts, he gets blasted as a troll because he’s a Sox fan. So let them have their blog, please…you’re not going to convice them otherwise anyhow.

by dmlichte on Apr 11, 2010 10:25 AM CDT reply actions

I don't ever remember anyone on here talking about the Rangers like people over at Lookout Landing are talking about Cubs fans.

I certainly don’t remember Al telling Rangers fans to shut up in a post. Sure we had our hopes up last year that he could keep his cool and be an asset but we handled it much better than they are right now.

United we stand and united we'll fall......down on our knees the day we win it all!

by Bricks and Ivy on Apr 11, 2010 10:51 AM CDT up reply actions

I don't disagree...

… in that the overall tone there is, well, over the top. I haven’t spent much time there, either, so I don’t know how many Cubs/Rangers/A’s/Dodgers…. fans posted on there. Maybe they need a thicker skin, maybe there were 1000X the number of Cub fans posting there about Bradley than there were ranger fans posting here… maybe the fact that BCB is a very large blog w/ tons of posts and posters relative to Lookout Landing dissipates the impact of annoying posts from fans of other teams.

But the bottom line is that I don’t think their response (not their tone) is all that unusual or unexpected.

by dmlichte on Apr 11, 2010 11:14 AM CDT up reply actions

that could be too...

BCB just seems like a place where you can go to have intelligent baseball discussion and I think that is a good testament to how Al runs it.

United we stand and united we'll fall......down on our knees the day we win it all!

by Bricks and Ivy on Apr 11, 2010 11:43 AM CDT up reply actions

I wasn't saying that...

And it’s one thing for the posters on a blog to be unkind, but I expect a bit more graciousness from an SBNation site personally, who have spent much time and money pursuing a broader audience, many of which are not going to always agree with the hardcore fanboys.

Just sayin.

by Damen Jackson on Apr 11, 2010 10:55 AM CDT up reply actions

I know...

… but perhaps there comes a time when enough is enough and you don’t want to hear it anymore and/or you know its time for an “I told you so”, but you don’t want to hear it.

by dmlichte on Apr 11, 2010 11:16 AM CDT up reply actions

I posted something similar a while ago

They’ll root for him, brush off this episode, but as we all know with Bradley, it all starts with something like this and just gathers steam. It’s going to be something else soon, then another thing, then another, and then people will realize they’ve all been enablers and will be yet another fan base taken for ride by Milton Bradley. In the meantime, the anonymity of the Internet allows them to be “tough guys” with the f bombs and the like. As Cub fans know, and Dodgers,Padres, etc fans know, the fools right now are the types at Lookout Landing. Eventually, whether they admit or not, they’ll know that, too.

As Cubs fans,

we need to ignore the Lookout Landing Blog. They obviously are sick and tired of our opinions on Milton Bradley ( the way they bashed Kinky Reggae was totally uncalled for), and the more we preach to them, the more they are going to hate us. It is a losing battle. Maybe this is why so many other fan bases hate us.

I'd be happy...

…to forget about Milton if I didn’t have to see him several more times this year at the Coliseum of Oakland. What gets lost in all the Gameboard nonsense, however, is that he still has moments of… well, decency.

During the rubber match between Oakland & Seattle, Milton was robbed of a straight away homer to CF by Rajai Davis. As he jogged back to the dugout, he doffed his helmet to Rajai. Whatever your opinion of Milton, he still can do decent things from time to time.
