So it looks as if the Royals are giving up on Juan Cruz. He put up good numbers in Arizona, the Royals are reported to be willing to eat "most" of the contract and the Cubs definitely need some help in the bullpen. Do you think it's worth a shot? GETITDONEJIM????

Here is Juan Cruz's stats via Yahoo: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6783

Do it! Any bullpen help with experience is good enough for us. And it’s a plus that they’re eating the contract. Go for it, Jimmy.

I haven't checked in on the Royals this season,

but Cruz has stacked out a real nice career since leaving Chicago in general, and I’m pretty certain that you could “un-suck” him again by bringing him back to the NL. If the Royals are eating money, it’s a flier I’d be very happy to see the Cubs take.

I will even go pick him up from KC and take him to Chicago just to help good ole Jimbo out

I would do it.

I wonder what they’d want in return though.

No thanks

They’d have to eat all of it before I’d take a chance. He’s allegedly only 31, and there’s a reason why he’s already in baseball’s scrap heap team, the Royals.

is hardly a pitching scrap heap with Greinke and Soria…

thats about it

Trust me, if the Royals don't want him, then neither do we.

very true

i cant even think of all the players they have traded away who have become stars.. Not saying Cruz is a star by any means, but it would be nice to see him come back and pitch good for us.

If he can

return to the form that he showed in Arizona a couple of years ago, it’s a no brainer…but the bullpen is relying too heavily on “ifs” as it is…I’d keep looking

depends on the price tag ...

but this is definitely worth exploring. He’s better than any of our right-handed relievers other than Marmol.

↑ This ↑ is how I feel.

Worth a look – would need to keep the price very low given his performance last season.

Why not?

Cruz has always had good stuff. We need another righthander in the bullpen with nasty stuff. If we can get him without giving up much I say we go for it. Sure he is a risk, but how many truly outstanding and consistent bullpen arms are there available? Not too many and those that are available probably have a high price tag.

Cruz was awful last year.

He is a head case

though I have had a soft spot for him, he probably is not a guy you really want around.

Whoa - good point.

His K/9 dropped by about a half from 2008 to 2009. He’s doing better so far (5.1 IP) so far this season, though.

I posted

this same thing when it was posted on Daily Dish a few days ago. I seem to recall thinking it wasn’t the worst idea in the world at the time and considering the bullpen meltdown today, I’ve seen nothing to change my mind.
