This season is shaping up to be a repeat of last season, in the regard of how many runs we score in wins and losses. Yes, I know, 17 games is a small sample size. But, since this team is basically the same team as last year, maybe a tad better, this doesn't matter.
The majority of the starters are the same.
We have talked on this blog about how last year the Cubs will win a game 7-2 or something and then lose 2 or 3 in a row scoring 2 or less runs in each game. This year is pretty much the same as '09.
Our runs scored in our wins this year: 2, 4, 9, 7, 7, 9, 8.
Runs scored in losses: 5, 2, 4, 1, 6, 3, 2, 1, 0, 2.
Again, our starting pitching has been good, and we are losing games in the late innings, but out offense is the bigger problem, I believe, at this point in time. LOB and RISP numbers can't be that good, but I have not dug into those stats, that is my perception.
We were shut out 12 times last year and scored 1 run18 times so that means 18.6% of our games we scored 1 run or less. We did not win a single game 1-0 last year
This year we have been shut out once and scored 1 run twice. We are at 17.6% this year.
Again, small sample size, but I don't like this trend already.
Sorry, could not figure out why all my breaks ran into each other...
