Efficacy of Coaching Visits to the Mound
I would be interested in seeing data on the at-bat results immediately following coaching visits to the mound. Obviously some visits are purely to allow time for the bullpen to get warm, but I would be interested in knowing the effectiveness of pitching coaches settling pitchers down and getting positive results from their visits to the mound. Would this be an effective measure of the ability of the pitching coach? Does the demeanor of the pitcher have more to do with the situations? Does anyone know if any data has been collected on this before?

I don't think mound visits are particulary effective measures
for pitching coach evaluation. I’m sure someone can prove it wrong, but even ‘gascan’ Rothschild can’t revitalize a tired starter with words. He’s just out there to, as you said, buy time for the bullpen, relay scouting report info to the starter in a tight spot, and cover for the manager.
A pitching coach’s value isn’t in game management, imo, it’s in preparation and sharpening pitches. Towel drills are invaluable.

Well not too good today
Lilly served up the three run homer on the first pitch after Lou’s visit. Lou came out after
Ted walked the first two guys so not hard to imagine the conversation
Lou " WTF are you doing Tad. Throw some (&^%$$((((!! strikes. There is NOTHING I hate worse than walks and you ought to know that Tim.
TRL- OK I will throw the next pitch right over the plate.

More often that not, it appears
Rothschild is a day late and a dollar short on his visits. But I’m really sure how much it helps. I never pitched & even in college there were none of these pow-wows on the mound with the entire IF when the coach came out to talk with the battery-mates.
Just win the next game...!

They are very effective
At slowing down the game, which is already slow enough with all the mid-inning pitching changes and batters stepping out of the box between pitches.

they probably just go out there to rip a fart
so the dugout doesn’t smell
