Actual science discussing how to lower the number of broken bats. It's only something that has been somewhat common knowledge for 100 years or so.

it is interesting

but it would not be the same for all batters, especially when taking lefty/righty into consideration as noted there

Part of the reason

I think players used such large, thick bats was that technology didn’t exist to give custom measurements so precisely.

I’m not facing Major League pitching but I’ve swung just about every known brand of maple and ash bats and there is no difference in how hard you hit the ball. The one and only benefit that I have encountered using maple is they generally last longer. Most people will debate that because when a maple breaks, it explodes and everyone watching can see it. What most people miss is that ash degrains and flakes. You could hit a rod right up the box on the sweet spot and take a layer off the barrel. It happens all the time.

Again, I’m not hitting of Tim Lincecum but unless you bone an ash bat they seem to flake in no time.

Its funny, you spend most of your life gripping a baseball. And in the end, its almost always the other way around.

Also, kind of curious...

Anyone that plays ball and uses wood; what type of wood/brand to you prefer?
