Yeah, I saw it.

I bet he will be activated, otherwise why make the trip, no?

No, but...

… maybe there’s an elbow issue that keeps recurring.

It's official...

per tweet from Carrie:

The #Cubs have placed Esmailin Caridad on the DL again (r. elbow strain) and recalled Jeff Stevens from Iowa

His forearm/elbow will "flare up" anytime they need to send down a reliever.

Don’t believe that for a minute. Grabow would have a strained groin long ago if he could be sent down.

yeah ...

Caridad is suffering from Chad Fox Syndrome. Early onset.

by elgato on May 19, 2010 3:54 PM CDT up reply actions

The Caridad thing makes sense.

Maybe his elbow – though I seem to recall he had a strained right forearm – is still bothering him, which would explain the lack of control last night. Another possibility is Carlos Silva – he looked pretty uncomfortable toward the end of his outing.

In some cases, forearm tightness is a sign of elbow trouble.

Not to be pessimistic, but moving from a forearm strain to an elbow injury isn’t good.

Or is it Xavier Nady?

Gordo just tweeted the lineup and Jeff Baker is in right field, not X.

heheheh

I don’t think this is a great idea, considering that Baker has hardly played recently. But it’s pretty funny.

by elgato on May 19, 2010 3:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe Lou is putting Baker there...

…because the Phillies are a great offensive team, and he figures there could be a lot of opportunities to throw out runners trying to advance? Honestly, if that’s the case, why not put Kosuke or Colvin out there – it’s not like one lefty in the lineup is that bad.

Why would want two above average fielders against the Phillies

That would be a waste.

I know what's happened ...

Baker’s butt has finally healed from the alleged fart-lighting incident. He can finally play the outfield!

by elgato on May 19, 2010 3:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Honestly, Kosuke might actually do well...

…against a nibbler like Moyer. Dome would build up his pitch count, if nothing else.

I'd go with Colvin.

Let’s see what the kid can do against a lefty.

On the other hand, maybe Baker has good career numbers against Moyer?

by elgato on May 19, 2010 3:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Let's hope so. The muffin man hasn't been in the line up so long

I’m sure Lou thought he needed playing time. He isn’t the best choice there to me for sure.

I don't think they'll carry that many pitchers.

But then again, these are the Cubs we’re talking about…

by chilango2 on May 19, 2010 3:40 PM CDT up reply actions

why in the world

would Baker be out there when we already have 5 outfielders. Plus, Nady and Colvin haven’t exactly been getting a ton of ABs

My first instinct is that we’re showcasing Baker for a trade, but I don’t agree with that at the sake of the team.

random thoughts aplenty: @crouch17

by AGC on May 19, 2010 3:43 PM CDT up reply actions

we're facing a lefty tonight, aren't we?

There’s your answer. Colvin and Kosuke won’t start and Nady’s probably hurt.

by elgato on May 19, 2010 3:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Can someone explain to me

why plenty Lou seems to have no major issue starting right handed hitters against right handed pitchers but seems to go out of his way not to let left handed hitters bat against left handed pitchers?

Uh

A left handed hitter against a left handed pitcher is a MUCH tougher match-up than righty on righty.

That is why teams carry a LOOGY. You never heard of a ROOGY, have you?
