Ricketts invest in failing rooftop
There were many here who thought the Ricketts should purchase some of the real estate on Sheffield and Waveland. It appears that the Ricketts are taking a small step toward that.

Dumb question...
…but what stops someone from building taller buildings behind the current rooftops?
"Pounding sand since 1982...."
My guess
would be the City department that issues the building permits.

And why would the city do that?
I’d have to assume it generate more revenue, which would bring in more tax dollars.

I misread your post. I thought you were just asking who, not necessarily looking for why someone would be against building bigger buildings.

It's a neighborhood
The residents don’t want taller buildings. I wouldn’t like it if someone built a 15 story building next to my house either.
For another thing, there's simply no space to build such a building.
Not to mention the L tracks.

Not in left field?
I’m not asking about any time soon, but 20 years from now?

Sigh. No.
Tear down an old house and build a new one. One that’s taller and can see over the current rooftop houses. For instance, the house down Kenmore directly behind the Horseshoe house. According to google maps it’s 3708 N. Kenmore Ave.

Zoning laws can be changed.
I figured that was the answer when I asked the original question.
"Pounding sand since 1982...."
I suppose, but...
… that would change the entire character of the neighborhood, which has been mostly unaltered for 75 years.
I doubt it will happen.

and if you pass the zoning law to let one building go up higer
everyone in the area can chalalnge it when they decide to build taller as well, meaning that no one gets the taller building.

Zoning ordinance
Though many – if not all – of the current owners rec’d a variance to build higher than the traditional 3-flat or 6-flat.
Just win the next game...!
I wonder if Ricketts would put up...
…a large video board behind the stands on the rooftop. Seems like the only logical spot.

I was thinking the same thing.
It’s entirely possible. In fact, if they had known they were going to do this, maybe they could have put the Toyota sign there.

I don't think it would look too bad there either.
Being 2 or 3 doors down from the Miller Lite sign, a square video replay board would kind of fit-in. You think the Landmark Commission would have any say in this?

Good question.
My guess is no, because it’s not part of Wrigley Field and I doubt that building is landmarked.

Video board
I’m sure that’s what he has in mind.
He’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing. First the Toyota sign. Next a video board on this rooftop. What can come after that? A domed stadium in Schaumburg? Maybe the Cubs will play better on astro-turf?

Your right
because domed stadiums and astro turf are sooo state of the art!
Lets go one better maybe they can track down the old technology from the AstroDome score board and have cowboys with pistols a’blazing for homeruns.

All right
I admit it – I was raving. Probably because I skipped lunch.
