Who's Milton Bradley?
The name doesn’t ring a bell.
United we stand and united we'll fall......down on our knees the day we win it all!
I know, I know, I know ... but
Way too many goddamn Bradley posts, but I think this case may be a bit different. If this had some other name attached to it, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone had posted it. Read this headline and tell me if it’s provacative enough for a post all it’s own:
“Player leaves stadium after being pulled from game”
I think it is. Unfortunately, I’m not sure what else can be said. Could this actually be the end of his career? One can only hope.

I see your point.
I hope it is the end. Can you imagine what BCB will be like when the Cubs play the Mariners in June?

Wait
you two are actually hoping for the end to someones career just because you don’t like him personally, even though you’ve never met the guy? Wow
Wait....what?
I’m sorry to offend, but hoping the end of a career on someone just because you don’t like them (and they apparently didn’t play well enough for your team) is not only lame but petty and childish.
Period.
Just because Lukas is a race-baiter doesn’t mean that comment isn’t spot on. Would your opinions of Bradley be just as harsh had he never played for the cubs?
Life is tough, but it's tougher if you're stupid.

Yes.
It’s well known that I felt this way about him before the Cubs signed him, and I didn’t want them to sign him.
His personality does not seem well suited for major league baseball. Thus, both he and his team would probably be better off if he didn’t play any more.
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
Are you tired of him or tired of talking about him?
It seems like you guys are actually wishing this is the end of his career simply because you’re tired of talking about him. People who don’t spend their time on these boards probably don’t hear about Bradley even 1% as much as people here do.
Not lame at all...
the guy drains this league of all sanity and at the same time robs them of precious dollars. I hope I never see the guy again. He is a douchebag.
Kwa...Ki...Sur...Pee...Nee...Ku?
I'm sick of the hysetics
I think he’s bad for baseball and I’d wish he’d either change or go away. He has some seriousissues that need to be dealt with and I don’t think that playing MLB is helping with those.
My issue is not about him. I couldn’t care less if I like him or not, but this BS is just that – BS. I’d much rather talk baeball.
by jerry morales rules on May 6, 2010 9:57 AM CDT up reply actions
The race card he played was not only indefensible and predictable,
It showed to me in addition to all his other previous behavior he would be better off in another career. He keeps getting coddled by hopeful teams of reviving his career and extending his childishness.

he blamed last year on Chicago – and he’s off to a horrible start again. He’s says “Seattle appreciates real baseball” so who the hell is he going to blame now?
I wouldn’t be surprised if he blamed God next. Because in Milton Bradley’s world, it’s everybody’s fault but his.
2010 is OUR year.
that's probably the root of his latest problems
Somewhere deep down, he knows it’s all his fault and it’s become impossible for him to blame someone else, so his universe is folding in on itself

Remember
this is the guy who’s child had racial slurs yelled at her at school. But of course you probably don’t believe that.
You know who probably does believe Milton. Soriano, Jacque Jones, LaTroy Hawkins, etc.. But I suppose their all just lying huh?
He DID say...
…that he was pushing the STEREOTYPE of Cubs fans being racist. He never said that MB didn’t hear any slurs shouted in his direction. Nor did he say anything about his kid hearing racial slurs at school. But hey, I guess it’s okay to project that kind of stuff onto one poster on BCB. After all, if one person said it in the past, it must be true that they all say (or think) it, right?
Right.
Not a single person ever came forward to confirm the “racial slurs at school” story. Nope — I don’t believe that one.
Guess you don’t care that he ran out on his rent in Chicago, either.
How can you continue to defend this individual?
"You can observe a lot just by watching." ~ Yogi Berra
Marlon Byrd even says Milton is a good guy
Add Bryd to the list of liars too i guess. And as far as his rent goes I never claimed Milton didn’t have his problems, but the continuous slamming by people like you makes me sick.
And who the hell is going to come forward and confirm the racial slurs at school? The teacher or students who made the remarks? Yea that makes all kinds of sense. Good thinking Al. Never mind Miltons own child said it happened, but I guess she’s just a liar too.

I'd think an administrator at the school would have confirmed it.
Nothing. No confirmation.
About Byrd’s comments: very few players are ever going to call a teammate or former teammate out in public. It is telling that the remarks made by the Cubs players after Bradley was sent home last September were about as close as I have ever seen a professional athlete come out and say in public, “My teammate is a [expletive deleted]”.
Fact: Cubs players burst into spontaneous applause when they were told Bradley was being sent home last September. You won’t believe that, of course, but it was reported by Bruce Miles.

None of us blame EVERYTHING FROM LAST YEAR…his signing and the predicted repercussions for the team, which came to fruition, were a microcosm of the major issues the team ran into last year. I’m way more pissed at Jim Hendry for wasting a boatload of operating capital on that idiot than I am at Milton; I knew what the Cubs were getting when they made that deal, so why would I be pissed at him? In the allegory of the Frog and the Scorpion, the Frog is the idiot, not the Scorpion. The scorpion is just being himself.

I think an administrator at the school would have confirmed it only if they had heard it
that’s usually what confirming something means.
I don’t think any of us would expect a school administrator to lie so the lack of confirmation only tells me that the administrator didn’t hear it. Nothing more, nothing less.
It’s interesting how you interpret lack of saying something one way when it’s coming from an administrator and another way when it’s coming from players.

What do expect Byrd to say?
If he says anything remotely close to negative about him, it will create a media firestorm. Bradley’s personal problems are well documented — Look how many teams the guy has played for — 5 minutes of research on MB will tell you what a cancerous tumor he is to an organization.
This man collects a salary most people can only dream about and he just can’t keep his mouth shut and play a game. I have zero sympathy for him. Whether racial slurs were shouted at his daughter or not is irrelevant. Who cares? What does that have to do with the way the guy acts on and off the field? Milton’s biggest problem is Milton, plain and simple.

Give me a break. Do you think Milton’s kid is the only black in Chicago to get called a racial slur? I’ve been following this idiot’s act since Montreal, and it has never changed. Why is it that no matter where he goes, there’s always some kind of drama. The guy can’t accept why he never fits in anywhere…he needs serious help. I’ve listened to him interviewed on his ‘good days’, and I couldn’t reconcile the crazy Milton with that guy. He needs meds, therapy…I don’t know, but seriously – if you can’t make it in Seattle, you can’t make it ANYWHERE!

Eh... i don't know if that is a fair way to look at it.
In my mind, the N word can be used among Black Americans without irony, as we often do hear in pop culture, to either neutral effect or as a sign of solidarity. NWA can get away with it, sure – but attempts by dudes like David Allen Coe and Axl Rose to do the same haven’t gone well.
There is too much hurt and history attached to the word for it to ever be a “good thing” coming from the mouth of a white person. I’m not saying that it did or didn’t happen in MB’s case, just that NWA’s use of it in the 90s probably doesn’t much lessen the pain of hearing it for your average black dude.

He needs help
but it seems pretty clear that he has no intention of getting it (or even admitting that he has a problem).
So far the Mariners have bent over backwards to kiss his butt and he still acts like a petulant, spoiled child.
I’m starting to agree with Al’s prediction that this will be the end of the line for Mr. Bradley. I can’t wait to see who he blames his latest tribulations on.

Exactly.
He was a former Cub, and just a year ago he was. So acting like he doesn’t exist every single time his name is brought up is just lame to me.
Now bring him up every single chance he does something is dumb, but this is newsworthy.
2010 is OUR year.
why do teams keep signing this guy?
Gee, perhaps his .356 wOBA might have something to do with that. But hey, I suppose being a nice guy in the clubhouse is all that really matters, even if they statically suck.
I'm gonna go ahead and say it ...
I think MB’s stats are deceptive. It seemed like there were SO many times last year when MB was up with a man on third and less than two outs and he walked. Such an at-bat will help his stats, but it’s not something that is AS helpful as a long flyball or RBI groundout.
This is just my opinion based on watching MB for a year. But I think the argument can be made that while MB’s a decent player, he’s not good enough to put up with the other issues DESPITE what I consider to be deceptive stats.
SABER heads flame away.
Even if MB was a solid citizen, clubhouse favorite and a finder of lost loves, I still wouldn’t sign him… the dude’s an injury prone Mr. Glass. He can’t help you win if he can’t stay on the field. They should have a prop bet in Vegas for what comes first to keep him out of the lineup – pulled quad or emotional meltdown.
Eliminate that pesky Dominatrix in one easy step. Step 1: Tell her you're a Cubs fan!
Did anyone see that
highlight of him on a flyball where he is strolling through the outfield even though the ball was 20 feet away from him? He just assumed the center fielder was going to get the ball.
I think Felix Hernandez was pitching that day. If I was him I would of been more than pissed.
2010 is OUR year.
I saw that on ESPN
Even if the CF will get to the ball first, fundamentals say the LF still goes to “back up the play”, not stop dead in his tracks before the ball even lands.
MB says he’s a perfectionist, but if he’s not playing “perfectly”, he won’t even keep trying? This is like someone flipping the chess board across the room when they see they’re going to lose. It’s so unfair to his teammates, as well as the fans.

According to a source, Bradley yelled at the umpire from the bench before being told by Don Wakamatsu to cool it. Wakamatsu said that he would handle the umpire himself. Bradley responded that someone had to say something and that if Wak wouldn’t, then he would.
According to the source, a few minutes later Bradley walked back over to the skipper and said, "I’m packing my stuff. I’m out of here." And then he left.

I just watched the aforementioned at-bat on my archive on MLB TV, and the pitch Shields struck Bradley out on was damned near perfect down the middle (it was just off the center off the plate, not even what you’d call a corner). If I watched someone take a called strike there with the bases loaded, I’d be very unhappy, especially with a veteran player. If that player then criticized me for not defending his shitty decision to watch a perfect pitch go by, I’d tell him what Piniella did last year. Even the ‘K-Zone’ or whatever the hell Fox Sports uses showed the pitch was clearly a strike.

The cynic in me......
…. says even Bradley realizes he’s out of excuses, his act is tired, and he’s got no other choice BUT to finally accept responsibility if he is going to continue in baseball. It’s something he should have done long before he ever came to Chicago. In other words, I don’t think he really means it, but as long as he gets help, then I hope it works. He’s so unbalanced however, that I don’t think he should ever play baseball again, for his own good.

However, if he really did mean it, I hope he gets the help he seeks and it makes him a better human being.

But even in him finally admitting he has problems,
He chose to yet again say he was “stressed” after being held accountable for failing. I sure hope it helps him, but when you yet again in effect say it wasn’t your fault , I’m even more skeptical counseling will help.

Bradley seeks help
Mariners going to “”http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-marinerslineup" target="new">love on him"
My only thought is that as UNIQUE said earlier, Bradley wont be the first or the last to be the subject of racial or non-racial slurs but its really unfortunate the way he’s handled it and to what extent he has chosen to hide behind this. I feel its a disservice to many other people, not just professional athletes that deal with issues like this every day. I hope he does get help just so he can stop being a part of the problem, if he doesnt want to be a part of the solution.
BCB - We have our own dictionary!
The spin continues.
Kruk put it best, when will it ever be his fault, when will it stop always being someone else making him fail? I suppose it’s a good thing he says stress is causing him problems, perhaps he will finally get treatment. Still, given his history its not a stretch to think it’s another Tiger Woods excuse…I mess up because of this darn problem in my body I can’t control…yet another way to avoid responsibility.

I think I know now why we hated him so much.
Bradley was the hangover from the high of 2008, the irritating reminder that the best days had probably just passed us by for a while. We pretend we want to be on the bench with DeRosa, when we really ought to be on the couch with Bradley.
He had mental issues of some kind, saw a demon around every corner, complained about some of the fans, and had a troubled history of failure. But he kept lying to himself that this was the year he was going to get it all turned around. We don’t hate him because he’s not like us.
He is us.
