Via the Memphis Commercial Appeal, we learn that the Cubs have apparently recalled Mitch Atkins:
It was just over an hour before Friday night's game when the Redbirds learned Iowa would not be throwing pitcher Mitch Atkins against them.
The Chicago Cubs called their 24-year-old right-hander up to the big leagues after the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week had gone 4-2 with a 2.63 ERA.
There has been no other confirmation of this player move and no announcement of who would be going back to Iowa; I would imagine it would be either Jeff Stevens or James Russell. I'll update this post with confirmation if it comes before I leave for the ballpark today.
