Sportsmanship Done Right
I love this story about how one girls' softball team came to the aid of their opponents in their time of need. Restores your faith in (wo)mankind...

Very cool story.
And, as was pointed out in the story, it could easily have gone bad any number of ways.
This is what’s possible when people think of others before themselves. And it didn’t require some contrived program or law—it was purely spontaneous cooperation and friendship.

Great story.
One missing thing… and I’m not “picking” on anyone… but how does that situation manifest?
I mean, how does Marshall show up for a game without ever having practiced? They couldn’t find one coach who knew what they were doing? And the first scheduled game is against a team that hadn’t lost in forever? How does all of that come about?
I don’t want to hijack from what is a really nice story, I’m just curious how it came to be.
Yeah I think Roncalli handled it about as wonderfully as anyone can,
But why the heck didn’t anyone try to help Marshall practice before they got there? It’s a wonderful story, and hopefully other leagues will see it and try to avoid it happening…have some veteran coaches lead a practice, give them any help you can. I know when I was playing little league, my coach and others helped coach and recruit players for teams that were close to folding before the season.
Reilly has posted great insprational stories before. He’s good at writing these, and there’s sure ones out there for men as well. Like a football player stopping to score to honor the other team.

Here is the original article from which Reilly got the story

The Indianapolis Public School system is going through massive reorganization, which has led to some of this. Marshall used to be a junior high school, and appears to be expanding into the high school ranks, leading to some of this situation.

That link doesn't have any info in it about the reorganization or much of anything different. Thanks though.

You could write a book on reorganization of the Indianapolis Public School system.
As a resident of Indianapolis, it’s sad, but necessary at the same time.
Schools like John Marshall are going through major transitions, while at the same time, budget cuts are affecting schools’ abilities to retain teachers and coaches.
IPS is trying to implement a system whereby certain schools would become “athletic magnets” for a lack of a better term. But until they do, schools like Marshall are out in the cold when it comes to getting proper coaching, unfortunately.

Great story. Thanks for this Em.
A lovely story:
One day, long, long ago, there lived a woman who didn't whine, nag or bitch. That would be me....
But that was a long time ago and it was just that one day.
The end
Enjoyed the article - thanks Emelie
I'll go to my grave believing Armando Galarraga tossed the 21st perfect game in MLB history.
